The parts of the body were arguing over who should be the boss of the body. The brain said it should be boss because it ran everything. The lungs said no, me. Without me there’s no oxygen. The heart argued for itself because the body can’t function without circulation. The legs chimed in because the body needs to get around. The stomach put in a vote for itself because without food there will be no nutrition and no life.

Finally, the asshole applied for the job.
All the other body parts laughed.

The asshole got mad, and he closed up.

That proves that you don’t have to be a brain to be the boss, just an asshole.

Mi IMAC is ten years old and has no readily apparent problems.
Those with experience, please, should I be prepared to replace it in the near future.
Thanks.

I finally replaced my 2007 iMac this past spring when the hard drive crashed. Time Machine worked flawlessly with my new M1 MacBook Air.

My first "real" camera was a Nikon F Photomic FTN bought new in 1969. I sold it 10 years later along with the lenses I'd acquired to finance my second "real" camera, a Pentax 6x7 which I still have and still use on occasion. In the intervening decades I returned to 35mm with Olympus OM2, now long since sold. In the early 2000's I bought into the Minolta Vectis S1 system and had a lot of lenses for that. I think I still have one body and the 400 mm mirror lens. It was an APS SLR system and took really good pictures. I picked up a Nikon FE for a good price at an auction (the battery was dead and all the idiots at the auction thought it was broken). I added a Nikon F6 to relive the glory days of a top of the line Nikon SLR, several MF systems (Bronica ETRSi, Fuji Pro 6x9 (the "Texas Leica"), Rolleicord III, the venerable beast the Pentax 6x7.) When I went digital in 2010 I stayed with Nikon, starting with the D5000 and eventually upgrading to the D7100. My most recent digital is on a parallel track (mirrorless), the Nikon Z6 which I love.

Back in film days it seemed that one film was best for certain shades. Nikon was know for the way it handled red, Fuji was a favorite for outdoors shots where blues and greens were predominate, Agfa was a favorite of a lot of portrait photographers…..

Nikon? What film did they make? Me thinks you intended to write Kodak perhaps?

OK I know it is early but do the Z9 specs indicate I should ditch my trusty D500 for a Z9 for wildlife photography. Yes the Z9 is heavy but with big glass does it make that big a difference? Are the Z9 advantages worth the switch - not talking about the economic impact just the performance. Interested in your views. thanks

I bought a Z6 on a whim back in June when they were on sale. I haven't touched my D7100 since. I was an instant convert to mirrorless and full frame. Just got my Z Nikkor 40mm f/2 2 days ago. It's a sharp, fast and LIGHT lens that makes the combo a great walk around camera.

Z9 looks to be a beautiful camera. But by the time I master all the things that my Z6 and D7100 and even F6 can do, it will have come down in price or have been superseded by the Z10 or Z11. The camera does a lot but it is not the critical factor. The photographer is. Granted, with a Z9 most people would be able to effortlessly create impeccably focused perfectly exposed boring pictures, as opposed to the pretty well focused, fairly well exposed boring pictures they are making now.

I have just resurrected my Canon Eos 3 film camera and thought I would try to do some portraiture with the Ektar film. What film processing companies have people used with good results. Preferably I would like to receive the negatives and a CD of the processed images. I will likely create my own prints after scanning the negatives using Silverfast Software.

The Darkroom (the darkroom.com) in California. Basic scan and processing with return of negatives is their base. I recommend you go one step higher in the scan only if you are going to print from their scans, which are JPEGS. For your purposes stay at the bottom of the chain and get the basic scan (looks fine on your phone and makes a great proof collection) then scan the negatives yourself. They pay the postage from you to them, you pay return postage back to you. They also will print if you want.

This thread seems to have found a divide between those who are particularly moved by the story and those who are not. Might be a good time to check out Philip Larkin’s poem “The Mower.” Different but similar animal but very emotional and powerful poem. I don’t think copyright laws would let me include it here but it’s a quick Google— Larkin mower— and you’re there.

Thanks to everyone for all the information and advice. And the YouTube link. I decided to preorder the lens from B&H. Although the non SE version would be more esthetically ap propriate with my Z6 the lenses are the same and the SE version will be available first. I use plenty of vintage glass, including AI, on my DSLR so matching the style is not that important. And in the back of my mind is maybe to sell off my D7100 and some DX lenses and buy the Zfc, so the lens would be a good approximation to a nifty fifty (a nifty 43) for that one as well.

Serif's Affinity Photo (MacOS and Windows) is the first thing I recommend to those who don't want Adobe products. It's a one-time, $50 or less purchase, with updates available indefinitely…

I have Affinity and like it but have read its raw developer is weak. So I have gone to the Nikon Suite. What would you recommend? MacBook Air M1 with macOS Big Surv11.4.

Thanks Bill_de and CHG_CANON for the info on the SE label. I hadn’t realized that the lens was designed to look good on a Zfc.

But the Zfc is a crop frame camera. If it was aimed at that market, so making it FF seems excessive. I guess Nikon was looking to cover both markets. I’ve done well with Nikon DX cameras for more than 10 years (D5000 then D7100) so a plastic mounted lens is not a deal-killer for me. Under $300 is a good deal for a fast FF prime.

Any news on availability??
