I have never trusted CR to rate cars, they are looking for something different from what I look for. Seems they know not photography also.
Rather matters whether one is shooting DX or FX. It is a rather long lens in DX but perfect for general use as an FX lens.
In addition to the 850 and DF I use now, I have acquired so many as the industry has improved. I use to use a D200 because it was waterproof and now it is converted to infrared. My son dropped a D90 in the water and I sent him another D200. I still have a D50 and a D60 and a D800e just because.
So, The Blue Angels have a show in Pensacola every year and one of the solo pilots comes across the water from the left. I have been trying for years to time it and get the rooster tail coming up out of the water. Too damn fast.
Nikon F100 was my go to camera for years. Now I use the 850 and the DF constantly and have to say my love is for the DF.
I use a D810 with a D750 backup
I take real estate photography for many brokers and they keep on calling me back because they like my work and they think my pictures help them sell real estate. I have also shot weddings and get other jobs from satisfied brides. Pays the bills, not rich at it but I think it gives me some cred as professional.
Really shouldn't say this but, you should have used a Nikon.

You obviously know what you are doing so I'm not going to insult you by explaining anything technical about exposure.
I use Aperture Priority mode when I want to control the background and have ample light to either pick a specific ISO or let the camera do it, and I know the camera is not going to give me a shutter speed that will result in a blurred image. This way I can concentrate more on what I'm doing and spend less time turning dials on the camera. If timing is not an issue I usually shoot manual but, to be honest, I didn't spend thousands of dollars on top shelf cameras just to show them off. I bought high end gear because I can trust them to work, and that they do...

Could not have said it better, was about to post same thing
I had a similar problem with my old D90 and I took out the battery and the card, reinserted them and all was well until the next time
Hope she had good insurance
I took a B&W pic of the Eiffel Tower some thirty years ago and it sits in my hallway now very proudly.
My first digital was a D40, then a D60 which I converted to infrared, two D200's which were great since they were waterproof, rain anyway. Gave one to my son who kept on losing his cameras in the Keys. Got a D4 which solved my speed issues. Then the DF just did something to me and it is still doing it. May not have all the megapixels but it takes great pictures, beautiful color, great B&W. And it just a joy to hold. But I want 850, it will replace the D4, give me megapixels I never knew I wanted. Make a great extra body to take on trips since it and the DF are both FX and I can use the same lenses. And neither has a flash so I can carry only my trusty SB800.
I have a DF which I use most of the time and an 810 which gets specialized use. And I am thinking of trading in the 810 for the 850 which just might replace my love for the DF.
I have seen the Blue's several times in Pensacola Beach. Best shot is when the solo comes over the water and it rooster-tails behind him
