Newer tech doesn't promise better pictures. In some situations, it might make an image easier to make. Just check out Elena's work using her aged 5DIII. She proves it's the photographer not the gear.

No truer words were ever spoken. That woman is an artist.

Thanks so much,

I agree fully. I usually copy the links he provides and save them in a document. That way, I always have them at my fingertips when I need to look up something. Thanks Jerry.

If your camera has an Airplane Mode option, turn it on and leave it on. It will make a significant difference in battery life. I am not familiar with current Nikon models but it sure makes a difference on my Sony A6000's.

Sounds like you need to format the card in the camera you will be using it in. Don't format it in the computer. Format it in the camera.

According to the link it will only work "If you run Windows 10 Pro or higher (Professional, Enterprise, or Education )". Or make some modifications to the Registry and I am very hesitant to play around with modifying the Registry.

Everything you read about windows 10...You also signed saying that, yes Microsoft, you can go into my computer anytime and do anything that you want to do....

That's my main complaint with Windows 10. The user has no control over Windows Updates. Microsoft downloads them to your computer and installs them with no option for the user to refuse them. And you can wind up with problems like the OP had. I have Win10 on 2 computers and Win7 Pro on the other 2. On a scale of 1-10 I would rate Win7 a 9, and Win 10 a 2. I have no love for the direction Microsoft is going.

FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) keep those guys and gals who are charging $100 per cleaning in business!

They usually use the same Sensor Swabs and Eclipse fluid you can buy online. The video on Photosol's site explains and shows just how to do it. And the extensive information at www.CleaningDigitalCameras.com is further reinforcement that you can learn to do it safely.

Excellent information, as usual, Mr. Burk. Thanks.

Between the two lenses you are considering, I would choose the 35mm 2.8. For museum visits the 35mm would be more practical at the range you would be shooting.

I have bought new and used cameras and numerous lenses and accessories from B&H because of their reviews I have read on this forum and elsewhere. I have been totally satisfied with every transaction. There have been no surprises. Their used gear has been better than described and their low prices, free shipping, and no state sales tax makes buying from them even more of a bargain. And to top it off, their helpful customer service is a pleasure to deal with. Color me a satisfied customer.

In the late '60's I was flying throughout SE Asia and picked up a Nikon F, a Nikkormat and a few Nikkor lenses, (35mm, 50mm,105mm, and a 200 mm) in Japan during a layover there. Those cameras served me well for the next 30 years. With the advent of the digital age I sold the Nikon F with lenses and kept the Nikkormat with the 50mm 1.4. I've still got it and everything works like new. I should get rid of this last survivor but I hang on to it to remind me of many fun times it has accompanied me on my travels.

Wake was an interesting place to visit in the 60's. I flew through there twice a month from 1966-1970. It was one of our regular layover stops for re-fueling and crew rest. There were lots of old rusted Japanese gun emplacements and bunkers with machine gun nests to explore. Fishing, snorkeling, and a cold brew at the Drifter's Reef was the highlight of the trip.

Jerry, I've been a member of nextdoor.com for about a year now and find it very useful. It keeps you up to date on what is going on in your neighborhood. In the past year there has been 3 burglaries/home invasions in our neighborhood and I knew about them the next morning. The website members publish photos and descriptions of cars in the area that look suspicious and report any suspicious activity they see. Neighbors also share flowers and scrubs and lots of other items they no longer want or need. It's a good source of local information that comes as a periodic newsletter if you sign up for it. You can cancel any aspect of the website you don't like and they won't bother you again. I have found it to be very helpful. Try it. You can always cancel after a week or so if you don't like what you see.
