Hi,
Which lens is better suited for landscape, street photography and museum visits on a two week Italy trip; a 35 mm 2.8 or a 55 mm 1.8?
I have a Sony a7ii.
Thanks!
The 35mm is not likely to be wide enough for a lot of interior shots but should be OK for Street and landscape. I think the 55mm will be too restrictive for what you want to shoot.
For what camera?
(Sensor size)
You're going to get different answers from people based on their shooting style.

I agree with you regarding the 55mm lens. However, I'll have to disagree about the 35mm on this FF body, although I would prefer one faster than f/2.8. If the OP wants a single prime lens solution for a light weight travel kit, a fast 35mm lens, in my estimation, is the best all around compromise, with the emphasis on
"compromise". I realize for some people a 24mm lens might be considered a better choice for wider shots, but for me, the additional reach of the 35mm allows for greater flexibility.

That's what I get for reading on my iPhone.
Thanks
I think the OP had it reverse. It should be 35mm f/1.8 and 55mm f/2.8.
I checked out the Sony a7ii -- Per B&H the Camera Format is -----
APS-C / (1.5x Crop Factor)
If that holds true then the:
35mm = 52.5mm effective
with the 55mm = 82.5mm effective
If you already own both why not take both
If not & your addressing purchasing one or the other --- Flip a coin --- But probably the 35mm
I have the A7 full frame and I use the 28-70 for my landscape and street work. It works for me, but the choice is strictly up to you.
My first camera 50 years ago was a Minolta AR-15, I had my choice of only two lenses, ( I was under fire in combat I. Viet Nam) the 35 and the 50mm lens! After a quick look through the view finder with each, I decided on the 50mm because I saw a little more! Glad I did. Just my opinion.
I used a samsung 24-240mm HZ15W P&S camera from Serbia to Paris. 24mm was about 60% of photos and 240mm at least 10%, and everything else in between. And the photos were good exposures and sharp. Used only program.
I will get the new Panasonic 25-250mm P&S for my next trip.
Geez I got to learn how to type, not a Minolta AR-15, it was a SR-1S!

You would be far better off with a wide to moderate zoom of modest speed.

Traditionally, a 35mm lens was used for Street Photography, and some kind of wide-angle was used for landscape; I've always found wide-angle to be best for museums also, so
personally if I had that choice I would take the 35mm ... but the answer here depends on your style. What lens would you use under these settings in your hometown, where ever that might be?
