That's not really necessary, the camera companies take good care of that. I've been deleting them for many years on many cameras and cards. Have never had a problem.

NCH Suite of editing software

I have used all of the NCH products as well as Audacity and they worked well for what I needed at the time with no problems, but I have since began using ImageJ/Fiji and it blows all the others including Photoshop all to pieces. Yes, it is free and open source but has a very steep learning curve but try it anyway. I'm sure you will be surprised.

Where Did I Go Wrong?

You can't do a lot with the high humidity of the environment, try adjusting the contrast to highlight the glow.
To me that would make it a little more dramatic. Otherwise I think it's a good shot

Hidden Image on a Fishing Boat
