I have a quandary. The current photographical theme for this year is "Energy". I have been thinking about how to portray this. My best thoughts are 1. flowing water eg a waterfall; or 2 some fast moving object eg a football player. To me, both of these don't seem outstanding. I was wondering if the brilliant minds on UHH had some better ideas.
Thanks!!

Your opportunities may depend on where you live: ocean waves, waterfall, wind farm, a match at the instant it lights, outdoor thermometer showing +120 degrees [even if you have to use a heat gun to cheat], Tesla in flames, large bonfire, storm clouds moving in, rocket launch, LNG tanker with the rounded cryo tanks; possibilities are endless.

In my case, the cardboard shim worked.

Thanks for posting that link; I read it and immediately got out the IR remote for my P-900 and slipped a folded up piece of paper in over the battery like described. Remote went from operating intermittently to operating almost all the time. Learned something new today. Thanks!

If you're going to carry that around, you might as well carry a nice, small point & shoot camera.

Bought this camera recently for my wife. It is an awesome camera but does have at least one fault. (I think)
When using the scene model specifically for the moon there is a distinct blue hue on the photos. [see attached photo] I don’t have a manual for the camera yet so I’m not able to look it up and there is nothing on Google that I can find. Wondering if anyone here has that camera and is aware of the same problem. Thanks in advance. Also looking for a manual if anyone has any leads. I’m in Canada.

I recommend getting the "Guide to the Coolpix P900" by Alexander White; it's full of info and tips, and is far better than the Nikon instruction manual. Had to dig mine out and look at the Scenes Mode. When you first go to the Moon setup in Scenes, the first screen shows a column on the right of "virtual" color filters you can use, going from "none" at the top down through gray, red, yellow, and blue at the bottom. There is a little white marker to the right indicating any filter that being used, if any. Just use the top dial to move the arrow up to the top. The camera also sets focus to infinity and turns on the 2 second self timer for you.

Duesenberg class, all the way! Shot at the Greenwich Concurs Show, Greenwich, CT, and the first time I actually saw a Duesenberg at a car show, and I've been to too many to count! There was this one, and 4 others, and included the very first one produced! Like striking gold, and it would take a lot of that to own one! Thanks for viewing.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful automobile; definitely a doozy of a Duesy!

Our local area Mazda Miata club president reached out to us members looking for who are photography enthusiasts, Pros, whatever, for advice and help. He is looking to organize a club photography shoot for us members and their cars. Now my experience, and I told him, is the lighting and setting location which affects the reflections off the car. This is something he is looking to do and seeking advice on setting, location type etc. So, me being dude with a couple of cameras, told him I would reach out to 'big guns' for some feedback. So here I am posting this post looking for thoughts, feedback, comments, just throw be some bones Hoggers on whaddya think ?

When you get it all sorted out then quickly give all your drives real names that mean something. Forget this changeable windows letter thing.

give the drive a real name and write the name and drive capacity on the outside of the case with a cheap paint pen from someplace like Hobby Lobby. Paint pen works great even on a thumb drive or an SD card.

I used a Tamron 18-270 for years on my Canon D 40 and found it worked fine for every day carry for most things. Biggest problem was that on occasion the 18 mm just isn't wide enough on the crop sensor Canon. These days I have their 18-400 on a D-70 and love it except for its weight.

My plan is to have two camera bodies and three zoom lenses -- zoom to 70mm, 200mm, & 400mm. Since we will be driving, I could get a bit excessive on gear so would like thoughts on what other lenses to consider. Also could add a tripod to the mix. I have a Nikon D70s converted for infrared photography that I may bring.
Thanks in advance for any help on this venture ...[/quote]

By all means take a wide angle lens, and definitely carry the tripod. Be sure to make reservations well in advance, and have a great trip. If you fly into Las Vegas, you could make a nice side trip to Death Valley [assuming the washed out roads are open].

Appears that A1 locks out the VF when the screen is open, but A2 does not. So A1 is a new convenience, and A2 is the way most cameras have handled auto switching all along. Thaz how I read it.

That's how I read it too, an unnecessary convenience. If you don't want the viewfinder to come on while you use the screen, just switch to screen.

Nice photograph; you should visit Madison over July 4 weekend for the hydroplane regatta.
The tows coming past Louisville typically are 3 barges wide and 5 barges long, and pushed by a single towboat. In the spring when the water is high and moving fast, they may be pushed by two towboats, especially when they have to maneuver through and around bridges.

Consider the Impressionists. Their paintings are timeless. We know who they are as individuals. Why can't it be the same for photographers?

we know of a handful of the best, most popular Impressionist painters. How many great, good, or just average Impressionist painters were there whose paintings were eventually trashed by their grandkids, or acquaintances who received them as gifts, just to get them out of the way. Like photographs, very few survive to be described as "timeless;" the vast majority can simply be described as beautiful, but really nothing out of the ordinary!

How many here make timeless photos and how many make snapshots that will die with them?
I mean die by no one will care nor cull through the thousands of snapshots but dispose of them as meaningless to anyone but the author.

I fully expect all my photos, both snapshots and timeless, will be trashed after my death. Except for a few friends or family photos, they mean nothing to anyone else but me.

I love being in airplanes. I had a job with an air express company in the 1990s which allowed me to ride in the cockpit jump seat. That's an experience almost without parallel for an aviational "layman." Probably not so much for someone who has to do it routinely.

But like a few others, I've flown very little since 2002, and not at all in the last 10 or 12 years. As food safety manager in my plant, I had to learn quite a bit about the security process and what it can and cannot actually accomplish in real life. The short version is that there are absolutely no guarantees. So I will not subject myself to the indignities of a largely illusory security system.

Driving works just as well for the places I want to go, and I've also taken a couple of train trips. As far as flying, you are welcome to have my seat.

I used to enjoy flying, but that was in the 1980's; travel agent would deliver all my boarding passes to my office the day before I left, I would show up at the gate about 15 minutes before the plane left, and I'd usually have a row all to myself. No metal detectors, searches, etc. Those days are gone forever. Seems it's gotten worse every year since then. Today, it's just one hassle after another; no longer fun! By driving, all decisions are mine, where to go, where to stop [at least if I'm traveling alone].
