My family and I took '66 from Detroit-Chicago-El Cajon, CA in November 1944 (wartime) when I was 10 years old. You would drive for hours and never see another car (ah, the good old days!). It was a 2/3 lane road, not flat, but moved up and down. We got stopped somewhere in the rain by a cattle crossing (bear in mind '66 was a major transcontinental highway). I remember the gas pumps: some had a 10-gallon glass container on top, which you would fill up with as many gallons as you wanted (you had to do this) and then pump it in the car. If you were using Ethel, the gas was pink. Ration stamps. Food and motels were as the pictures you have probably seen show. We did not have a still camera but a movie camera; I have movies of parts of the trip, now digitized. Almost got caught in the snow in Mountaineer, NM, but made it down safely. God, what a 10-day trip it was! I had chickenpox that didn't bother me at all. Unfortunately, I'm the only one left from that trip. Have a great time (I think AAA has trips along '66 booklets you can get).

I have seen lots of cell phone pics, and if you have nothing else, use it. When you try to print at 5x7 or 8x10 it is apparent why we use cameras. Wonder if she want to sell what looks line Canon equipment?

Patricia,

I would love to. Do I just put it here, or is there some way to make it private?

Thanks for the information. I'll keep it for the future when it comes time to buy more lenses.

I just bought a T90, which I unfortunately got rid of when I bought my first digital Canon. It was (and still is) a great camera. Yes, I have read all of the problems that it has, but I bought it from KEH and can return it in 14 days if I have to. I also bought a couple of lenses (they are cheap) just to get started again. Hope it works!

Anyone have any Canon FD lenses in excellent condition they want to sell?

Typically, if you provide an amount for the item you want covered, there is no deductible, as you have paid for the covered amount. You must cover them individually though. It's still cheap. I never have been questioned on the covered amount. Be reasonable. Look at the list annually and if there has been a substantial change in value (usually downward); change the coverage. You usually can't hope to replace a 5 year old camera with the new model without expecting to spend something. There is some value in having and using the old camera for years which I don't expect the insurance company to pay for.

My experience is that the only thing that is expensive to cover on personal items is jewelry. Cameras (lenses, etc.), golf clubs, art, etc. are very cheap considering what you get for the money. If you travel, it's a must. I also have made a list of the travel cameras and lenses, complete with serial numbers, which I laminate and take several copies of with me, just in case something happens.

If you have the time you might want to take a jet boat ride on the river in Queenstown. Too fast and wet for a big camera, but if you have one of the smaller waterproof ones, it might work. Nothing like making a high-speed turn in the water with a rooster tail about 40 feet in the air! Have a good one.

The best way to take Hwy 1 is going south. You are then on the ocean side, and while the drive takes a lot more attention (be very careful!) the views are much better. Have a good trip.

To me, the question is not so much the camera(s) or lenses, but where would my wife and I go to take the pictures (first class, of course).

Thanks--very useful. I'll take a look at the 5D book, too.
