When I got into dSLR's my first was a Canon 350D which I liked. I then went to a Canon 5D full frame and loved the photos that came out of it. But I was also getting tired of the size, weight of the body, L lenses.
I started researching going back to a crop camera and obvious choice would be Canon since I have good Canon lens, but ended up switching to a Pentax K-5 II and sold all my Canon gear. I really like the images the K-5 II produces. Being weather proof and built in stabilization is a bonus. Plus the Pentax lens are all backward compatible.
Pentax has just come out with the K-3, which on paper surpasses both Canon & Nikon crop cameras.
I am viewing it on a 15" laptop, but after you explained what it was happening I could make sense of it.
Thank you.
If I was a healthy young adult I think I would just skip the insurance and pay the penalty each year. I am lucky in that my insurance so far is covered through my retirement, but we do pay for my wife's medical insurance. It looks like her monthly payment will only go up about 50%, but the deductible will double. And now she has to have maternity insurance, which she has no needs for.
As for employer being required to provide insurance, you do know that this requirement is only for the employee, not any of the employee's dependents?
Our doctor uses a point & shoot, but what brand I don't know. He showed us the photos of my wife's operation. One thing he did mention was that because of patient confidentiality the files are encrypt both on the camera and the laptop that he uses with the camera. He wants the photos for documentation, but is careful about patient confidentiality. How they are encrypt I don't know.
Right now I have medical insurance through my retirement, but it does not cover my wife. Up to now we have paid for a personal insurance for her, but with the new health care the premium will about double. Since she only averages about four doctor visits a year, we are thinking about just getting catastrophic insurance and pay cash for each doctor's visit. It means paying the penalty each year, but it will be far cheaper than going with the "Affordable Health Care" insurance. We make too much money to qualify for any discount.
The correction only works if shooting raw, not jpegs.
I almost shoot raw, so white balance can be changed later. But there are times I use jpegs and the location has different light sources to mix things up. I use to use a gray card, but now I just make a custom white balance in camera using the coffee filter method. In my opinion the results are really good.
Here is a article that explains it:

A lot of good advice here. I have one wide angle manual lens I like to use and in good light my eyes can focus OK, but there are times when I just can't depend on my eyes. Also, while the lens does have a distance scale, it is not accurate.
What I ended up doing is using the Hyperfocal distance method. To do that I placed a piece of masking tape over the distance scale marks (wasn't accurate anyway). With my Pentax I was able to tether the camera directly to my laptop for faster feedback. In a controlled environment with good light & tape measure I set up my focus charts. I focus using live view to get the most accurate results and being able to view the results at full resolution on the laptop I started marking distance marks on the tape. First at minimal focusing distance, then at selective distances up to infinity.
To use this info with Hyperfocal distance I use "Depth of Field" calculator that is a free program for my phone & computer.
http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.htmlI use my masking tape marks for about everything now. I just estimate the distance, line up the marks on the lens, consult the DOF calculator if needed. I can so this in the dark if needed.
I am not sure what the big deal is about Starbucks or other private businesses in asking customers not to carry. When I carry, no one is going to know it. I don't display the fact that I have a concealed weapon, so no customers or employees will know it, unless something happens which threatens my or their lives. I am not concerned about stolen property. It would be hard to justify giving someone capital punishment for something the courts would probably give a suspended or very limited jail time.
Just my opinion.
Go to a outdoor sporting goods store (REI, others) and they have outfits like you described, that also dry very quickly and easy to wash in your room. Two sets is all you will need, of outer wear, underwear and socks.
I have used them camping in a tent or hotel rooms. Make sure it is not cotton.
This reported newspaper, Prayer Zeitungon, appears not to exist. I did find a German newspaper with a similar name. Maybe it was misspelled.
