Well this is from the Arkansas blog. Here's the link

And so you can read it quickly...here's the text:

Arkansas Republican: Praises Obamacare, going to save him $13,000
Posted by Max Brantley on Wed, Oct 2, 2013 at 4:39 PM

HAPPY REPUBLICAN: Butch Matthews with his wife Debbie.
Get a load of this article from Think Progress:

It reports on Butch Matthews, 61, described as a small businessman and Republican from Little Rock.

He was skeptical about Obamacare, he says. He says he didn't think it would help him.

But after doing a little research, Matthews eventually realized how much the law could help him. And on Tuesday, his local Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) provider confirmed that he would be able to buy a far better plan than his current policy while saving at least $13,000 per year through Arkansas’ Obamacare marketplace.

When he was self-employed, he had to get his own coverage. It got more and more expensive ($1,069 a month), with a whopping $10,000 deductible that didn't begin to cover his drug and other needs given treatment for a heart ailment.

That all changed once Obamacare’s state-level marketplaces opened to the public on Tuesday. Matthews knew that, at his income level, the law would help him pay for insurance. But even he might not have expected just how good of a deal he could get: his new coverage will cost him absolutely nothing in monthly premiums after factoring in federal subsidies, and has a deductible of $750.

“Which is a lot different from $10,000,” he pointed out, laughing.

Matthews says he's still a Republican. But what about Obamacare?

“I would tell them to learn more about it before they start talking bad about it,” he noted. “Be more informed, get more information, take your time and study and not just go by just what you hear on one side or the other. Actually check the facts on it.”

Arkansas Republicans legislators don't want people like Matthews to get the facts, because they might like what they learn. Arkansas Republicans in Congress want to kill the program altogether. They'd prefer that Butch Matthews go back to his old coverage.

Hey Rix..... I generally don't do this, except as satire... but since every time someone puts up an article on a subject here.. You or others immediately say something like..

RIGHT WING CRUD.... WHAT ELSE CAN WE EXPECT, LIES and MORE LIES>>>>>>

Well...The Arkansas Times is a left leaning Paper and if you scroll down the page on this site, you will see articles by the Huffington Post..... A FAR LEFT SITE...

so, I guess I will just ignore this as further indication that left leaning folk Lie, Lie, Lie...

One of the paragraphs in the article...

“I would tell them to learn more about it before they start talking bad about it,” he noted. “Be more informed, get more information, take your time and study and not just go by just what you hear on one side or the other. Actually check the facts on it.”

A VERY VERY smart comment, could help us all, some more than others...

Actually, this article originated on the ThinkProgress blog site and was written by Sy Mukherjee.

Here are some opinions concerning the blog:

Politico writes that “ThinkProgress is struggling to be taken seriously both as a news organization and as an openly ideological operation whose parent has close ties to the Obama White House.”

An article posted on ThinkProgress on October 5, 2010, authored by Lee Fang, attracted attention and some controversy. The article alleged that the United States Chamber of Commerce funded political attack campaigns from its general fund, which solicits funds from foreign sources. The story was repeated by the Huffington Post and the progressive activist group MoveOn.org asked the DoJ to launch a criminal investigation of the Chamber's funding.

The non-partisan fact-checking website FactCheck.org analyzed the claim that "foreign corporations are 'stealing our democracy' with secret, illegal contributions funneled through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce," noting that ThinkProgress made the initial allegations. FactCheck concluded that "It’s a claim with little basis in fact." Others questioned the claims made in the article as well. Eric Lichtblau of the New York Times pointed out that the article "provided no evidence that the money generated overseas had been used in United States campaigns."

The story regarding Bruce Matthews from the overtly political blog might be factual or have some facts contained within it. It will be interesting to see as ThinkProgress is far from an established news outlet. In any event, this heart warming story did bring a tear to my eye.

How true. ThinkProgress is like Newsmax or Breitbart. In short, that what they publish with a grain of salt.

So you think it is untrue...that you'll have to prove. I am currently covered under my wife's plan. Under ACA we will save roughly 1800 or about 150 per month when I buy my own insurance. Now, before you get all huffy about this...you need to check for yourself especially if you've got family coverage from an employer. Some employers are more generous than others in our case my wife's employers are quite parsimonious regarding benefits.

I guess you didn't read or comprehend what I stated in the latter part of my post that you replied to, so here it is:

Oh, and no, I don't have to prove or disprove anything anymore than you have to prove this story, which you haven't. By the way, this is a better troll than your recent attempts and at least you gave credit to the source, albeit not the original one.

parsimonious - nobody cares about parsley; they want cake!

That is great. It means that we healthy people will pick up the rest of the costs.
Show me a person that is healthy and their rates go down and I will be impressed.
He has health problems and now they can not charge him because of his preexisting condition and we will make up the difference.
But "they" do not tell you that.

If I was a healthy young adult I think I would just skip the insurance and pay the penalty each year. I am lucky in that my insurance so far is covered through my retirement, but we do pay for my wife's medical insurance. It looks like her monthly payment will only go up about 50%, but the deductible will double. And now she has to have maternity insurance, which she has no needs for.

As for employer being required to provide insurance, you do know that this requirement is only for the employee, not any of the employee's dependents?
