I really want to go to Europe and Africa. I have heard the horror stories about people getting there equipment stolen while out sightseeing. If I was out and someone cut my camera strap and rode off with my stiff I would have a heart attack chasing them down. So here's my question when travelling in distant lands how do you protect your gear. I have a lot of Gear. (GAS cost me my first wife.) so travelling with a point and shoot or just going to enjoy the scenery, Does not work for me.

I am open to suggestions.
Please help.

Hi,
I made a simple safety strap add-on for a trip to Europe. Get a short length of vinyl covered wire (like the kind in dog leash) and two small cable clamps plus snap clips to attach to your camera or bag. It runs in parallel to your normal strap and could easily be zip tied to the strap with small black zip ties available at the Dollar Store. All in, it cost less than $10 and completely eliminates cutting of your straps. I will make a post with photos of it soon.
Have a great trip.

Hi All,
How important is it to use a lens hood on a DX 18-200. I rarely use on and almost never have lens flare on my D7200 with that lens mounted.
Thanks,
Dave

I don't know what kind of demographics I am in but I would buy a new DSLR and not a Mirrorless.

My first DSLR was a D70, upgraded to a D200, then D300S. Just bought a D7200 a year ago and am very happy. BTW, am 81 yrs old.

I made a clip on anti-theft add on to my shoulder strap for a European trip. Got a short length of vinyl coated wire, (like that is in a dog leash), couple of small cable clamps and snap clips. Cost around $8-$10. Simple but effective and unobtrusive in appearance.

Consider a green laser rather than red. It can be seen more easily and further away.

There is a program called jpgmini which does a reasonable job of shrinking jpg files without changing resolution. Give it a look since there is a free sample version available.

Hello everyone, I have begun learning my new Nikon D7200, its also my first dslr camera. I also bought the book Mastering the Nikon D7200 to help me figure it out, and one thing at least so far that I am unclear about from the manual and book is how to use the card slots. I understand their purpose and how they can be set up, I would like to set them up so that slot 1 is for raw and slot 2 is for jpeg. The part I am not clear on is if I do that does their need to be a card in both slots. I know their will be times that I only want to shoot in jpeg, and for those times is it possible to just leave out the card in slot 1.

Choose menu then shooting then drive down to storage choice. One of the choices is slot 1 RAW, slot 2 JPG
Good luck, I just got a used D7200 for $429 with 5900 shutter clicks. Am learning to use it now.

I also have 38 years of computer experience. The suggestions to cold boot are excellent. Remember however, that your pictures are on the hard drive. You can always remove the hard drive and read it on another computer to access your photos.
Good luck,
Dave
