What demographics would purchase a new DSLR verses a new Mirrorless camera? I believe the DSLR is dying!

I would imagine the younger set and people who are into the latest & greatest technology would have a higher propensity to purchase them than the older set who have used <D>SLRs for many years.
They may eventually die by attrition.
(I'll keep my DSLR thank you.)

I believe if you go to this site's front page and take the total population and multiply by 90%, you'll have an accurate count...

I'm in neither category and, yet, I purchased last fall when it was introduced the Nikon Z7 mirrorless. My D800 was fairly well used up and my choice was between a D850 and the new mirrorless and I chose the mirrorless. I liked how sharp the shots were that I saw from looking at the images from friends who owned a mirrorless. So, I use both dSLR, a D500, and a mirrorless.

Many like me who have been using DSLR for 60+ years and have a huge investment in DSLR gear. No desire to change. They also said the horseless carriage/auto would replace the horse, but my wife and I still have horses and ride them. Sure we have cars, but the horses have more personality! So do the DSLRs.

I don't know what kind of demographics I am in but I would buy a new DSLR and not a Mirrorless.

I agree! For a new camera purchase and not owning any previous cameras it would be hard for me to imagine purchasing a new DSLR vs a new Mirrorless!

I currently own both a DSLR and a Mirrorless. I find each of them useful in their own way. I don’t plan on buying another digital camera except to replace in kind the one that broke.

So now B&H Photo is going to ask whether a buyer has the proper demographic credentials before selling her or him a piece of gear?

No, they’re just going to weigh your wallet...

I don't care about DSLR vs Mirrorless vs View, etc. I buy what meets, or exceeds, my needs. When it comes to spending over $300.00, I demand a camera which has two memory card slots. The 4.16233 ounces (118 grams) difference between the mirrorless Sony A9, and the Nikon D750 is not going to break my back, or dislocate my shoulder, as I carry the Nikon around instead of the Sony. I also want: great low light capability, compatibility with lenses I already own, and a few other things. If two cameras offer about the same features, I go with the one costing less. If one costs more, but provides more features / functions, I ask myself whether those features / functions are something I really need...or, at least, could greatly use...and whether they are-to me-worth the added cost. I am already into Nikon, so I would prefer to wait for an F-Mount Nikon mirrorless system....if such ever comes out. The Nikon Z things are not F mounts, and only have one memory card slot, so I am not buying into them.

The Canon R things are also one card slot items, so they are out. The Sony A9 has dual card slots, and many other nice features, but would mean spending around $30,000.00 to get into in a serious way....new camera, lenses, etc. I might consider that at some point, but not yet. I will give Nikon a bit longer to come up with an F mount mirrorless system. Failing that, they would have to upgrade the Z system, and work the bugs out, before I considered that. I may get into a used Sony A7III system. That would cost less....used camera, used lenses, etc. I am not devoted to DSLR, Mirrorless, or anything else. I exercise some brand loyalty, for the sake of familiarity, and accessory compatibility. If I switch brands, and have to get an entirely different system, I want to manage such in an affordable manner while still meeting my needs. I am not ready to switch yet, but may be in a year, or two. I don't follow fads just to follow fads...but I do not resist change just to resist change. Manufacturers, Marketers, and Retailers hate me. I am NOT a good, little, Peer Pressure Slave. I have a mind of my own, and I use it....to satisfy MYSELF.

Age would certainly be a differentiator that applies to things technical. We who were lucky enough to have been taught to think, analyze, and derive solutions to challenges may experience satisfaction from the actual involvement in the process. If satisfied with our present results we certainly are secure enough to not give a damn about what others think and “believe”
