I missed the full moon on Wednesday, and saw clouds moving in last night, so opted for this morning, but again, many clouds...praps within a few days. I would like to try to capture it again with my 300/2.8, first with my 810, and then on my EM-1, making it essentially a 600mm. My EM-1 has a feature that I assigned to an FM button, viewfinder magnification, a very handy feature that I often with for in my Nikon, however that comes in ‘live view’, something that I can work with. It is essentially the same thing, just in a different manner.

Anyhow, all of that aside, I was just reading here at the table, and happened to glance up at the bouquet that my wife had arranged here in front of me, and my eye focused on the Cosmo in the front. So I had to go get the Nikon/180, and the 1.4 tele. The first pic is just the 180, the second with the tele, and the 3rd with the tele using the live view. Nothing great, but just a small diversion before running off to the office.

Have a great day everyone!

I dug out this old lens to fit on my Olympus OM-D EM-1, and took it out this morning to work in the morning light. When I started out on the journey to use vintage lenses, this lens was my first expensive purchase, and I have always been pleased with this one. This model is that black finish one from Krasnogorsky, and dated 1979. I have always liked the looks of the all aluminum M39 models, but at the prices they are running now, I would rather put that money towards something else.

These arent expert shots, but just something I thought to share with you all. I like that this lens, while favored for its swirly bokeh, can also produce smoother backgrounds under the right conditions.

I awoke this morning thinking of a particular picture in mind, but that I was in need of a different lens. I knew that I would have to go digging through boxes to find my Isco-westrocolor 50/1.9. I found and went through 2 camera boxes and couldn't find it.

*sigh*

Now I had to work harder to find the 3rd camera box. I finally found the 3rd box, but didn't find the lens til I picked up the VXiia’s case and felt that there was a lens on the camera...there it was!

ok....now to the pics; the first is the one shot I had in mind when I went looking for the lens. I knew that this lens produces a busy bokeh background, and I quite enjoy this lens for its renditions. I took a number of shots at 1.9, and a couple at f2. Looking at them when I got home, I see that I am going to have to adjust the diopter for this lens. Now I realize that this will be true of other lenses as well. I spent time in focusing at 1.9 to get it sharp in the viewfinder, but the finished picture is rather fuzzy. *sigh*

The remaining pics I shot at 2.8, which seemed to my eye to be sharp enough in detail.

What are your perceptions on these?

Going through old boxes, I came upon a Fotodiox adapter that will allow me to use Exakta lenses on my K-3. The only Steinheil lens that I have with a working aperture is this Quinar 135/3.5. We had rain last night, and the morning light on the flowers seemed quite inviting. Looking over the picture, I quite enjoy the soft rendering of the background. While the lens is a 3.5, I notice that the blades do not retract past f4, but they are rounded enough as to be close enough to 3.5. Of the Steinheil lenses I have acquired, it seems a very common problem with them that the apertures stop working. All of mine are stuck at 2.8....excepting my ‘Exagon 35/2.8’, which got busted up last winter when I slipped on a patch of ice, and it slipped out of my hand and got damaged in the fall.

Seems a long while back, I purchased this AI-s Nikkor off of the Bay, and it arrived in near mint condition. However, as nice as it was, it didn’t have the rubber focus ring on it. I was a bit upset, but quickly realized that it is only a cosmetic issue. I did however try to find a replacement online through several sites, even Nikon’s site, to no avail. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to list a number of Nikkors for sale on the Bay, and the 35 was one of them. While it was listed, someone contacted me to let me know that they had the same issue and had found a replacement from an ebay seller in China. They sent me a link for the ring, and I placed the order. It arrived this afternoon, and it is a perfect fit. I am quite pleased as the lens looks so much better now!

So here is a picture from the garden, shot at 2.8
The vignetting is due to having the lens hood from my 105/2.8 on it

...Shot these using a D810 with the Nikkor 55/1.2 @ 5.6.
I so enjoy the play of light and shadow here on the hills, and the recent rains bring out the colors of the rocks and soil in the hills.

A little ways back, I purchased a D750 as my introduction into FF. It wasnt too long after that we needed a bit of money, and I sold it along with a pair of lenses. recently, however, I found a nice D810 at a very reasonable price, and I enjoy this camera so much more!

Ive had this lens for quite a while; it came with an old Nikon F that I bought. The lens dates to 1960. As of now, I can only use the lens on my OM-D EM-1, or my D5500/D40x. This decision has been brewing in the back of my mind for quite a while now, as to whether or not I should ‘AI’ my Non ai 105/2.5 and my 58/1.4. Both lenses date to 1960, and I have seen it done with the 105. This seems appealing to me as I could then use them on my D810. I ended up digging them both back out this morning before running off to the office. (I could not locate the D5000, so I just took the Olympus.)

Anyhow, Here are a few pics from the garden using the 58/1.4, all shot at f4

Shots using the Nikkor AF 300/2.8. These were taken just as it was getting dark. For some reason, the AF wouldn't operate, and I didn't want too take the time to try to figure out the issue, and switched to manual. I had my ISO up and aperture at 3.2. Not all of them sharp, but it was fun following different people and seeing what I captured.

A short while back I purchased a D810, and have begun spending more of the shots in the monochrome setting. I was inspired by a large format shooter that I came across on Twitter, and began following his work. The D810 is another ball game compared to large format, but I will continue to create pics with what I have on hand.

On the way up to town, spotted this eagle on the river. As it was a sunny day, I was shooting in Monochrome, and had the ISO set to 32, I had to park a ways down the highway, and walk back to the eagle, slowly so as not to spook it. Having not reset the camera, except to revert to color, my shutter speed was too slow, and the image is not sharp. Shoot and learn...that’s what I always say.

We were invited out into the country to celebrate a neighbor’s birthday. I took along my Nikkors; 14-24/2,8, and the 300/2.8. I had an idea that I would like too add a fixed prime 20mm to my list of lenses, but thought I would just set the zoom to 20mm for a while. I was glad to catch the dog in the Beaver pond. I am still enjoying this 300, especially on my D810.
The photo of the hat I cropped, and was impressed at the detail.
