appreciate the journey Loc: wandering

I awoke this morning thinking of a particular picture in mind, but that I was in need of a different lens. I knew that I would have to go digging through boxes to find my Isco-westrocolor 50/1.9. I found and went through 2 camera boxes and couldn't find it.

*sigh*

Now I had to work harder to find the 3rd camera box. I finally found the 3rd box, but didn't find the lens til I picked up the VXiia’s case and felt that there was a lens on the camera...there it was!

ok....now to the pics; the first is the one shot I had in mind when I went looking for the lens. I knew that this lens produces a busy bokeh background, and I quite enjoy this lens for its renditions. I took a number of shots at 1.9, and a couple at f2. Looking at them when I got home, I see that I am going to have to adjust the diopter for this lens. Now I realize that this will be true of other lenses as well. I spent time in focusing at 1.9 to get it sharp in the viewfinder, but the finished picture is rather fuzzy. *sigh*

The remaining pics I shot at 2.8, which seemed to my eye to be sharp enough in detail.

What are your perceptions on these?

I looked at the final image in detail. The focus on the farther away flower pedals is excellent. Alas, the composition would probably be stronger with the focus on the near-side of the flower center, possibly with a wider aperture for more depth of field to cover this entire center section. You might consider processing the image files, adding more contrast to this (all) images, using the SOOC files as a start-point, rather than an end-point. For example, you might crop this final image tighter that would remove some of the busyness of the background. You could clone-away, too, some of the bokeh balls in what remains in the resulting crop.

The shallow depth of field gives a soft look to the overall pictures. This would work OK with a bigger principle subject and the focus spot on to an important element. I do not think this technique works well with your subjects and the bright overall lighting.

Is it possible that in photo # 1 that there is a bit of motion blur?

The look is a little soft, but still nice images. I would perhaps crop the last one a little different.
