It is indeed a photographer's paradise. Been skiing at Mammoth Lakes since 1969 and lived there for almost six years. You might try the aspen groves in the June lake area and the Lundy lake area. The colors should be gorgeous. Check the weather forecasts: It has been known to snow in October in the Lee Vining/Mammoth Lakes 395 corridor. Have a great trip!

Burkphoto is right on the money. Switched from Canon 6D to Olympus omd 1 mk 2 with 12-40mm lense a year ago and also feel liberated. I'm 88+ years young and could no longer handle the 6D with a long lense. With the olympus I can walk around all day with no problem. AF is very quick and the EVF is great. The selection of oly/panny lenses is also exceptional. Have fun with your G9.( BTW after you use it for a while you will know that it is not "a toy")

Just bought a refurbished 75-300mm zuiko olympus lens from them. Looks like new and works like new. Very pleased with service and price.

Been skiing at Mammoth since 1969 and lived in Mammoth Lakes for almost six years and found, as was previously highlighted, September/October time frame is the best. However, it can snow as early as September and one good snowfall closes Tioga Pass (elev 9985 ft). If you are travelling on 395 Conway Summmit is 8139ft and presents a fantastic vista of Mono Lake and the surrounding area. Bodie is accessed by a 13 mile very curvy road but is worth the trip. June lake has some great quaking aspen groves which might have just turned, yield some great photographs.
Good luck and have a great picture taking experieence.

Spent 10 days in Kauaii in December with omd1 mk2 and the 12-40mm f2.8 pro and only took it off the camera once to use a 40-150mm f4 for a few shots. 12-40 worked especially well during rainy days. Able to walk around with it all day without getting tired. (I'm 87 1/2 yrs young and switched from canon 6D)

Been on five riverboat cruises; used my canon 6D with 28-135mm as a walk around lense along with 90-300 telephoto w/kenko 1.4 TC; no flash. the 6D works very well up to ISO 6400. No tripod; they do not work well on boats; just transmit vibration to the camera and are a problem in crowded areas. Have a great trip.

Went to Paris last year and took my Canon 6D with 28-135 and never took it off the camera. It was a good walk around lens and it was wide enough and long enough to capture most everything. Enjoy the city and you will leave feeling that you could have taken many more pictures. Have a great trip.

David,
Looked at ALL of your photos. Lots of terrific shots. Thanks for sending. Gave me some good ideas on where to focus our time there.

Auberge du Soleil is an hotel and restaurant on a hill in napa that has great food, wine and a spectacular view of the valley. There is also Dariush winery that looks like a Moorish castle and sells great chardonnay. There is also the Silverado golf course, Pineridge winery with an interesting cave and the Yountville area. Have a great trip.

Your photographs are GREAT. You really caught what makes cats interesting pets. They are very difficult to photograph. I have three of them so I know what "herding cats" is all about. Great job!

I have a 6D and purchased a Tokina 16-28mm f2.8. It works very well and pricewise is in the $500-600 price range. Might be worth a look.

Wow; Certainly agree with Mark: nine pages of substantially vitriol. I've learned a lot from UHH but comments like the aforementioned keep me from becoming more involved lest I be bludgeoned for not making the appropriate comment. Where are the administrators as today's comments were way out of line.

I use the lens cleaning solution that i get with my glasses and a microfiber cloth. Blow the dust off first, lightly spray on cleaning solution and wipe from the center out. Worked for me every time without scratching expensive Lenses (or my expensive glasses).

Go to a photo store (if possible) and try both a Nikon and a newer model canon. Get the feel of the camera. Bring a disk and shoot some pictures. Then look at the specs. I went from a 50D to a 6D. The menus are similar and the learning curve is a lot shorter. Make an informed choice. Have fun shopping!
