When I was in the Air Force (many years ago), I was stationed in Florida, whenever the piolots would fly west of the Mississppi River they would pick up some Coors beer and carry it the travel pod, these were F-4's. After they landed we would have a squadron party. In those days Coors wasn't sold in the East.
Just for a new view read Mark Twain's "Extract from Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven". The part where he arrives at the wrong gate and they try to figure out whre he is from. "The worlds he has saved are like to the gates of heaven in number - none can count them"
I got to see a F-4 do a "hang in the air" one time. During a family day while in the USAF, the crowds attention was focused in one direction he came over a hill and trees that I have no idea how he kept it in the air. When the crowd was told to turn around he kicked it in and went over the crowd at not more that tree top height. I understand that a few people wet themselves.
My fav is still the "Warthog", having seen it work on the range in in war (1st Gulf) I would not like to be on the receiving end.
I do tours in a local Nature Preserve and I get some of the silly questions every time my favorite is "Why don't you get rid of all this water standing here" This is in a natural wetland area after I have explained what wetlands are and their place in nature.
We were at the Smokey Mountions early in May I asked one of the rangers what was the most unusual questions she has been asked. "At what altitude do the deer change into elk?" Rather than try to explain that deer to not change into elks she said she just told them "At 6,000 ft."
I was wondering when somebody would post pictures from there. My family came from that area (of course that was back in the time of King David the First of Scotland). I belive it was called the Parish of Whitfield (then spelled Whytfeld or something like that)Would love to see more.
An unloaded gun can get you trouble also. Years ago when I was a MP I stopped a guy to tell him his tail light was out, he decided to come out of the car with a shotgun.
After two two orders for him to drop it, he got shot. My Sgt said that was one request too many. Turns out it was unloaded. For the courious, I hit him in the shoulder, I was aiming for the center of his chest, but was a bit nervous. I didn't lose any sleep over it.
As for the picture, whoever took it is damn lucky the man behind the gun was well trained and in control of himself. Taking the picture was not a very bright idea.
Brings back the days. When people ask how many were in my Senior class and I say 22. I get funny looks. When I stqarted training for Track & Cross County running I couldn't count the number of people who asked me if I needed a ride home. Does anybody remember counter checks"? The local stores would keep a stack of blank checks from the local bank, if you forgot your checkbook you used one of those. That'll never happen again!
I use a heron decoy next to my pond to keep them away. Since they are mostly by themselves they won't hunt where another one is.
This is just 1/2 of it. The other side looks just as good. In warm weather my truck sits outside and I put up my portable workbench on my half. When I built it I should have added 3 feet to the side and about 6 feet to the rear.
You are soooooooooo dead. If possible let us know how she took it.
Great, that means I've got two gedunks, (National Defense). One for the Air Force and the one they gave us in the Reserves when we got back from the Gulf. Along with 2 for "Good Conduct". You had to really screw up not to get one of those. It does need to go lower, just above National Defense.
I've got my Dads from the big one (WW 2) with two PH and a Bronze Star. No way should it be anywhere near those!
Sounds good, here are mine.
I've got the one they gave my Dad.
