Hi... It's me again. The atheist that everyone hates. Something just struck me (no it wasn't a bible) when I read a news article on CNN that 3 new planets were discovered that could contain life. Would your religious convictions change at all of a superior life form were found on another planet? This isn't a question aimed solely to Christians (I have been accused of being a Christian basher and a devil worshiper - which isn't true) but anyone who finds the concept thought provoking might want to chime in if interested. I think that the religious factions would just change their interpretation of the Bible to fit the facts.

No, it would not. If we found life on another planet that would mean that we are the superior life form for finding the new life. There is more than just three planets out there that could (maybe) contain life - they are too far to get to in a life time. Now they believe that mars once had life on it because they think there was water at one time on that planet. However, since you have made this such a thought provoking topic, if there are life on another planet I am sure that God had something to with it.

P.S. No change in the interpretation of the Bible needed.

Relax religious zealots. Life doesn't necessarily mean bodies walking around with slanty black eyes and three fingers with suction cups on the end. It could mean botanical life or the like.

Recently thought of life.

Did a microbe really evolve into a male and then a female with different bodies, sexual organs etc ?

Did every microbe in the amino acid pool break up into 1 male and 1 female?

Did single cell organisms from that same pool grow into trees, animals, fishes?

Or was there superior planning involved somehow?

Evolution ? Scarey

Or were we put here by a superior race looking for a planet that would sustain the outcasts, perverts and criminals from their world?

My faith or belief system would not be affected one way or another. The Bible would stand as it is I'm not sure why you think it would need altered or re-translated. As for those who interpret the Bible I already have problems with many interpretations so there would be no change there either.

No it wouldn't change my views however, it could explain a lot especially if they had visited this planet a couple of thousand years ago.

Good points (my opinion). My only reply would be that they may be a superior life form that has no interest in communicating with such an inferior species.

The question was "superior life form" although from what I have witnessed in my MANY years of life is a plant could be a reasonable assumption. lol

I do not believe that the Bible says anything that we are the only ones created by God.
It says that He created Adam and Eve but not only Adam and Eve. Their children married other people so others were around.

I am still looking for intelligent life here.  :hunf: :?

These athiest/christian debates lend credence to my contention that there is only one absolute truth that human beings may arrive at by using the brain that supposedly came with their humanity. The absolute truth I assert is:'Things change!" This opinion evolved from an old Irish saying, to wit, "From the moment you're born, you begin to die."

With that in mind, I came to another dictum I hold dear. "The primary problem human beings have to face when seeking truth is: "Who are you gonna believe."

In my opinion, human's seem to have an abiding need for security, for that feeling that ensures things will continue as they are and that pleasant outcomes can be predicted if one cherishes a set of beliefs. Of course, this tendency flies in the face of the ultimate truth--Things Change!

In light of all this it seems to me that humans should be extremely cautious when chosing who or what to believe, and ever mindful that the false God of Security can not withstand the ultimate truth that everything changes with the passage of time.

We believe that we are superour to the jelly-fish, because whilst we work to create an economy, ponder on the meaning of life, work for around 1/3 of each day to make other people money that they can spend in order to support the economy, construct buildings to live and work in and fight wars, the jelly-fish spends all its time swimming around in tropical waters eating and reproducing.

The jelly-fish thinks it is speriour to us, because whilst we work to create an economy, ponder on the meaning of life, work for around 1/3 of each day to make other people money that they can spend in order to support the economy, construct buildings to live and work in and fight wars, the jelly-fish spends all its time swimming around in tropical waters eating and reproducing.

You decide.
