Anyone familiar with PSE 14? First, I can't upgrade (I tried). I tried to install PSE 22 but it needs Windows 10 and I still have Win 8.1 (It does what I need it to do). Adobe no longer sells an older version of PSE (I tried to get PSE 2020 but can't find it). I know, get Win 10, but for now I have a question on PSE 14. I took a great photo of my daughter at her wedding but there are people in the background I want to remove. How can I get rid of them?

--------------

Windows 8.1 will run Elements 2018 and older. I am running Windows 8.1 and have Elements 2018 installed and running.

I have been using the $9.99/month Adobe Creative Cloud subscription but am considering going with an ownership purchase to replace PS and LRC. I am looking at ON1 because it seems to offer both PS and LRC features in one package. Does anyone have experience with ON1 or some other editor that adequately serves as a replacement for Adobe?

--------------------

I use ON1 Photo RAW and Affinity Photo as replacements for Photoshop and Lightroom. I find them to be excellent substitutes.

It is YOUR CHOICE whether to add sidecar files or not. Yes, the data is in the catalog (really, it's a database...). Sidecar files are useful if you want to open the raw data in Photoshop.

All edit information is in the LR catalog. Always. You can also externalize this data into the sidecar files. To be useful, the sidecar files have to be in the same folder and filename (different XMP extension) as the original image file. Creating XMP files is a LR setting that must be purposefully set by the human.

Thank you for the info.

I used to use Lightroom up thru Lightroom 6 and stopped when it became subscription only. I was helping a friend of mine with some of his shots and he is using Lightroom Classic. In looking in his photo's folder I noticed there isn't any sidecar files with the edit data for the pictures.

Do they now stire the data in the Lightroom catelog or if they still use the sidecar fikes, do they now keep them somewhere other than in the photo's folders?

I have been seeing courses now being offered on how to use a smartphone for Photography. This is what has hurt the camera companies in the beginner and compact auto camera market's. I have a Samsung s22ultra and it has a great camera, that I Hardly ever use. I have 2 real Nikon DSLR' and 10 lenses. No smartphone camera can match that equipment. I wish people would realize this and buy real cameras. But I have issues with the camera companies trying to complete with smart phones buy changing over to MirrorLess cameras. I have tried several of Nikon's modles and they all feel too compact and plasticky. I have always liked a Heavy solid camera that feels professional. I guess I'm old school, I started photography in highschool and got my first Nikon camera in 1979. I have loved photography and Nikon cameras ever since. Through the years I have done weddings and other types of professional work for friends and for clients alike. I will say a smartphone will be ok to a novice but not a person with a real camera kit. Sorry for the rant but, it's still sad to see how much the smartphone has devastated the beginner market.

I too prefer the heavier DSLR cameras but I started out in photography when I was 14, back near the end of 1963. I actually find it easier to keep the heavier cameras steady when using slower speeds. I did get a chance to try out a Z6 and a Z7 right after they came out. I liked them but I doubt I would do away with my DSLRs to switch.

I currently use Sharpen AI. Is "Photo AI" a reference to the whole bundle which includes Sharpen AI?

George

-----------------

No it's not referring to the whole bundle. I saw a video about Photo AI a couple days ago. It is a new program that is due to come out in September. If you have some products now, you are able to download a pre-release copy to try out.

Thanks james, I saw some images of what appeared to be macro images of bird feathers taken from some distance - blew me away! Do you use it stand alone or with PS and/or Lightroom?

---------

Usually I use it as a stand alone. I also use Affinity Photo when I need it.

I've looked at previous posts about ON1 Photo RAW 2022.5, actually previous editions... The most recent post was 2016 I think. Anybody have more recent experience with this software?

------------

I use On1 Photo RAW 2022.5 and have no problems with it at all. I have bought and used every version since ON1 Photo RAW 2017 which was the first version. I had one or two slight problems with earlier versions but they were always resolved by customer support quickly.

Months ago there were a few threads about upgrading to Win 11, both pros, cons, and wait. I would appreciate feedback on WIn 11 users' experiences with it, mainly with regard to bugs. I'm not averse to learning the ins and outs (I've done it so many times, starting with DOS, etc.) but what problems have arisen.

I upgraded to Wondows 11 back on February and haven't had any problems with it.

I have some old photos that were set to video about 20 years ago of my sister who died of covid. I am trying to capture them with a cellphone off my computer as I pause the video at the right time. Some of them, of her youth, are particularly bad, but would be nice shots to include on a white board at her memorial. Here are several of them, is there anything I can do to make them somewhat clearer? I have Lightroom and Photoshop, but I have never used Photoshop. Is there anythee ifing I can do using Lightrooim alone?

Fellow HH, I'm new to Topaz and just finished playing with a few sample photos. My question is, once I've sent my photo to Topaz I now have two photos, the original and the DeNoised.......now what? Do I delete one and keep the other or what? Now I know that this might sound elementary but I'm just being honest. I don't know what to do next. HELP!

------------------------

Always keep the original and contonue further editing on the copy. I would personally keep both.

Saturday I’m photographing a National championship race which is being held at the same time as a big yearly race. I’m guessing 4000 runners total. The lead guy gave me the settings for my camera today so it can be synced to the race directors Chronotrack and I’m to shoot in JPG with a medium file size which is fine. I’m on the finish line and all photos are loaded into the directors system so runners can find there photos based on time. Now for my question.

I’m wanting to record to my first card in the JPG format and record RAW to my second card for my use. When I choose JPG on the first card it shows I can take 9999 photos but when I add RAW to my second card it now shows both cards can only hold around 2500 photos. I’m only really want RAW for the first large group of finishers, the winners but I’m afraid I won’t have time to do setting changes once the runners start crossing the line. I’m wondering if my JPG card will keep recording or is my camera gonna stop recording anything once my RAW card is full? Any advice?

Maybe you could consider using larger capacity cards.
