Does anyone have any experience purchasing pre-owned lenses from B&H or Adorama? I have been eyeing a Canon 70-300mm L-series, but now production is discontinued and I can’t locate it new anywhere.
Yes, both, and Roberts Used Photo Pro as well, B&H and Roberts several times. Never got a bad lens. You do need to pay attention to the statement of condition and how that compares to your equipment care and standards. Most often they are better than described.
I have used B&H more than once. Never an issue.

KEH has a nice selection of varying conditions (mostly excellent or better) for $800 to $900. They are usually a little less than the stores. I buy nothing but refurb and used bodies and lenses via the two you mention, KEH, and carefully chosen eBay sellers. No problems thus far in well over fifteen years. I sometimes buy third party insurance. I used that once when I dropped a Nikon A900... no problem there, either.
I have used them regularly. Easy/ good to work with. My one return was handled professionally and without a hitch. No complaints whatsoever!
I second Quixdraw's review of Used Photo Pro (Roberts).
I recently purchased a gently used Nikkor 24-70mm f2.8 from them and it was EXACTLY as described. It works great and I saved roughly $1000.00 as a result.

I've owned this lens. It's well-built and a great performer. But, have you considered the equally excellent
and newer EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM? This non L lens isn't white painted, is missing the red ring, is smaller, a lot lighter, and best of all: delivers excellent images with Canon's newest IS assistance.
B&H, Adorama, KEH, Roberts and MPB are great places to seek used equipment. You'll pay more for that red-ring and near additional 1 pound of weight for the L lens than than you'll see in the images from the lower cost model.
i have bought used from B&H for just about all of my equipment. No problems
Both are reputable. Also KEH and MPB are good for used equip. That's actually all I buy and ive had great experiences.

So true! KEH "Bargain" stuff is usually, for me anyway, always in great shape.
Highly recommend Roberts usedphotopro.com

I have purchased used equipment, lenses and cameras, from KEH, Roberts, National Camera Exchange and Ebay. Only had one issue and returned a lens to Ebay, never to the other three. B&H and Adarama are also very reliable companies, so I don't think you will have any issues in purchse, or return is problems.
I've bought used lenses from various place - never a problem.
