Very pretty! Nice to have the proper identification of the tower and Big Ben, too.
Nicely done--photo and story!
Very nice. That sky in #2 is interesting, but a little too busy for me. #3 is my favorite.

I think they would sound better if they were 'dangling'. Makes one wonder if having them sit on the ground is part of Russia's effort to 'silence' the church.
I'm sure they don't ring them there. I think they're on the ground because of problems with the tower.

Hey David: The reservoir you visited in Gunnison was the Blue Mesa. This is over 100 miles from the lake in Paonia on the North Fork. I love the combination of motorcycle and on-the-road photos. I can tell you've led an interesting life. My uncle Andy was a self-made millionaire and spent half his life doing restoration of unique vehicles. A museum dedicated to him displaying a tiny portion of his work sits right on Hwy. 50 in the heart of Gunnison.
Interesting! (Both notes) Are you the same person as robertjerl?

Interesting, David.
Thank you very much! (I was wondering if anyone was going to comment here. The other set has way more activity.)
Great photos of fabulous old stonework.

Quite interesting! And the bells on the ground is... unique?
Well, there is a place in Novogorod, Russia that has them there.

Rostok, Germany – St. Peter’s Church
In 2008 I took a cruise of the Baltic Sea that visited a number of ports. One of those was the city of Warnemünde, Germany. Just a short boat ride takes one to the city of Rostok (or Rostock). There are several major churches in Rostok, and I had the opportunity to visit 2 of them. This set is about St. Peter’s Church (Petrikirche), which was built in the middle of the 13th Century, the oldest of the 3 big churches in Rostok. The triple-nave basilica is in Brick Gothic, a building style typical of the Hanseatic port cities of northern Germany. It has undergone several severe damages and restorations. An observation platform in the tower (146 feet high) affords wonderful views of Rostok and the Baltic Sea.

Rostok, Germany – St. Mary’s Church
This set is about the St. Mary’s Church (Marienkirche), which was built around 1265, and is Lutheran. The triple-nave cross-shaped basilica is in Brick Gothic, a building style typical of the Hanseatic port cities of northern Germany. The huge tower with a baroque lantern at the top was not completed until the end of the 18th century. The high altar was built in 1721 by a Berlin craftsman, mainly from painted wood. The astronomical clock was built in 1472 by Hans Düringer, a clockmaker from Nuremberg. It is the only one of its kind still in working condition with its original clockworks. The huge baroque facade of the "Marienorgel" was designed and built in 1770 by Paul Schmidt, organ builder of Rostock, and has been rebuilt several times. It has 83 stops and 5,700 pipes.

I got a little weepy, too. I have shared it with 2 other fora and some e-mail friends.
