Rostok, Germany – St. Peter’s Church

In 2008 I took a cruise of the Baltic Sea that visited a number of ports. One of those was the city of Warnemünde, Germany. Just a short boat ride takes one to the city of Rostok (or Rostock). There are several major churches in Rostok, and I had the opportunity to visit 2 of them. This set is about St. Peter’s Church (Petrikirche), which was built in the middle of the 13th Century, the oldest of the 3 big churches in Rostok. The triple-nave basilica is in Brick Gothic, a building style typical of the Hanseatic port cities of northern Germany. It has undergone several severe damages and restorations. An observation platform in the tower (146 feet high) affords wonderful views of Rostok and the Baltic Sea.

Well, there is a place in Novogorod, Russia that has them there.

I think they would sound better if they were 'dangling'. Makes one wonder if having them sit on the ground is part of Russia's effort to 'silence' the church.

I'm sure they don't ring them there. I think they're on the ground because of problems with the tower.
