I had the same setup and it worked the same with or without the converter.- excellent results. I used it with the Canon 90D and with the R6 with the same results. If it were me I would exchange what you got for a new one.

Canon is releasing a new RF 100-400 mm lens which is reasonable in price, size and function. It's available for pre order.

I think each of these images has merit on its own, but I can't decide which I prefer - the one with the dark background, highlighting a kind of "steam punk" look to the steam engine, or a more visible background to give depth and context to the engine... please indicate WHY you prefer one over the other - I learn from your input...

Both are well done images. I personally like the first one with the darker background for the dramatic effects that lifts the image up to another level out of the usual and expected.

Having just incurred substantial damage to a lens when my camera strap slipped off my shoulder, causing the lens to hit the ground, I am considering alternative, more secure ways to carry my cameras. Neck straps and sling straps allow the camera to swing and move uncontrollably.

What do you think about a holster that straps around the waist? Any experience or thoughts?

Think about OpTech harness. Takes the pressure off your neck and distributes the weight between both shoulders and back evenly. Does not use the tripod mount to connect if that makes a difference to you. Your camera will not ever fall off your shoulder again. However it will still swing but not uncontrollably.

I'm currently using a Canon EOS 80d (which has been great for my needs) but have been thinking about moving to a full frame. I mostly shoot portrait, some sports, and am currently getting into cave photography. My rationale for full frame is mostly to take full advantage of the L glass that I have and to increase low-light capabilities (my #1 motivator). My two primary constraints are price (trying to stay around or under $1k for a body so I can stay married) and size (anything larger than the 80d will be challenging based on how I transport my equipment, especially when caving, which knocks out the 5d's).

I've been looking at both the 6d mark II and the mirrorless RP as a replacement for my 80d. I know all 3 of these have very similar technology, but both full frames would give me a significant bump in IOS. Both choices would compromise burst speed and max shutter speed, but I don't think either of these would be a limiting factor. I am a bit concerned about using EF lens on an RP body, but I think this is only because I don't have any experience with mirrorless.

Any thoughts, experience, or opinions would be greatly appreciated, especially since this is close to a lateral move.

Real user story- not numbers from DXO or similar. I went from a Canon 90D to the Canon R6. I have not owned a full frame for several years and I am amazed at the image quality (gasp) and relative low noise at high ISO of the R6 (even a year later) While re organizing my photos this summer I had a chance to compare photos from both cameras - from RAW files- and noise was noticeable at ISO 1600 with the 90 D. I used the Canon 100-400 mm lens on both cameras using the Canon adapter on the R6 and then the 100-500 mm lens (when it became available). I have taken pictures with ISO at and above 6400 (R6) with good success. I will add that I used the 90D for a year and found it to be a difficult camera to work with in terms of getting accurate focus of moving subjects while the R6 is a huge improvement especially with its eye detection activated. I know you didn't ask about the R6 performance but hope this helps anyway in your decision.

It is very similar to the 55-200 lens. A little larger but not much. Performs about the same. The key for me is that the 1.4x extender is compatible which makes its more versatile.

I have this lens for sale because I replaced it with the 70-300 mm lens recently and don't use this lens much anymore. In very good used condition overall with a very small scuff to the lens body. Glass is pristine. This lens produces sharp images, focus is quick, lens is stabilized. Sold with the two filters shown useful for landscape and video. All you see in the photo comes with this sale. Very lightweight, easy to tote and a convenient zoom. 475.00 includes shipping to continental US. Adding three photos taken this morning.

The construction dust will be with you long after the project is finished. Change your furnace filters frequently for awhile. We had some specialists come by and vacuum out all the vents too. Are you in Sierra Vista?

Selling the above lens in very good/not pristine condition cosmetically and excellent optical and functional condition. There are a couple of very minor scuffs noted to the body and the hood has some small scratches (as all my hoods seem to have) and glass is flawless. I bought this lens new. I have used this lens for stills and video and it excels. Relatively lightweight, easy to handhold and fast and accurate focus. This lens is stabilized. I am including a Tiffin 0.9 ND filter and a Carl Zeiss polarizer which are helpful for landscapes and video along with a filter case.
Price- 520.00 includes shipping to US.

Personal checks, PayPal or Zelle - no money orders or cashier checks please.

I replaced this lens with the newly available Fuji 70-300 mm lens.

[quote=philmurfin]Hello,
Can some of you please share your ideas towards organizing your photos?
Please include the software you use and as importantly any tips you may have.
I, like many of us here, have a gazzillion photos, I thought I had an order to them but they are getting out of hand.
Many thanks for any ideas and hr

I use Bridge (part of the Photoshop suite). My collections are birds and I keep it very simple. For organizational purposes it doesn't really matter to me when or where the picture was taken. So I organize by type of bird and then sub-categorize the specific bird under that. Ex: Predatory is main category- hawks, eagles, vultures, etc is the type of bird and then I file the actual bird under the types of birds. Actually it's a bit harder to explain than do!

I try to keep my files limited to what I think is the best and most interesting work and don't usually keep multiple shots of the same bird and pose. This is the hardest part of the organizational process.

Bridge is not picky like LR and you can move and delete files at will without incurring error messages-

I don't keep 200k files so maybe it would not work for those that do. My philosophy is that when I am gone no one is going to ever look through 200K files but someone might browse through much less and find some they would want to keep.

I back everything up twice on external drives.

I use to use BH nearly exclusively. Then they changed to Fedex delivery who has proven to be unreliable in my area. That was the first negative. Then BH had equipment backordered for weeks and months at a time so I started to search out other internet stores and found my equipment in stock- Samys, Best Buy (believe it or not) and the Canon store- all shipped within a day or so and with a reliable carrier. I am still on the wait list at BH for equipment I was able to buy elsewhere weeks and weeks ago- BH never notified me it was available. So while I still shop at BH I seek out other merchants as well.

Both the 100-400 and 100-500 mm lens are excellent. Something no one has mentioned- if you plan to use an extender with the 100-500 mm lens, it's range is limited by the mechanics so it will not go below 300 mm so essentially you have a 300-500 mm lens. I have had both the 100-400 and now the 100-500 mm lens and they are very close in optics and not to far off in weight and girth. If you are using the 100-400 mm lens with the R5 or R6 then you need to add in the weight of the adapter. It's a tradeoff - full focal range with extender (100-400 mm lens) vs a little less weight and 100 mm more focal length 100-500 mm lens. Personally I miss the full focal range of the 100-500 mm lens (with extender)- I found out I use the 100-200 mm range more often than I thought. Just something to think about.

It is very humbling and overwhelming (and depressing :) to take a class like you did. Take a deep breath and take what you can from the class and move forward. And know that you can't control all all that he taught especially in wildlife photography. Sometimes you are just lucky to get the shot- branches, sky and all. But since you took the class you might find yourself incorporating some of what you learned little by little and that is the value of your 4 harrowing days. The images that appeal eliminate the busy backgrounds, branches in front of the subject, deep shadows that distract etc. Take a look at Hector Astorga online - or Marina Cano. I think they would be less nitpicky and more realistic. And enjoy your photography the way you want to do it. I've enjoyed your postings.
