I have a 3-week old Canon RF 100-500 L lens, in immaculate as-new condition, with all accessories (lens caps, hood, soft case, original box and paperwork from Canon). I paid $2962.73 from Canon, with tax and shipping. I will sell for $2900 and include an Arca-Swiss plate.
As I said, I'm keeping the 100-400, rather than the 100-500, because of the money involved. I can better make use of the funds for other photography equipment. I actually like the 100-500 better--more reach, slightly better image quality, lighter weight and more compactness. It actually works quite well for most uses in daylight handheld. But current budget constraints dictate that I can't justify the extra cost at this time.
This lens is on backorder from all suppliers, including Canon. So grab it while you can.
I was just about to ask the CANON GURU here how
an RF100 500 lens w/1.4x would compare in QUALITY to my current 500mm f4 L + 1.4x ?
I am NOT a zoom fan so want to know BEFORE buying any zoom IF they can ever compare to an older L prime lens? YOU may not know directly, but I do see you are keeping the L lens, so suspect your older lens was sharper?
Any input may be helpful ... thanks, richard

I have decided to keep my EF 100-400L lens and use an adapter on my R5 camera.

Could you please provide pictures of the lens? Why are you keeping the 100-400 over the 100-500?
I am curious on your decision in not staying with this RF lens. Thank you. Fran
I am also curious as to your decision. I have the 100-400 ll L series and love it but was planning to get the 100-500 to go with my new R6. Thanks in advance for your reply...Tom. You can send a private message to thanna49@gmail.com

I'll upload pictures.

No, it only works the other way around...an EF lens can be adapted to an RF camera

I have this lens and love it! It will not be as good as your prime, but much lighter and versatile with the zoom. I’m contemplating the RF 600mm…to go with my 100-500…$$$😳
Both the 100-400 and 100-500 mm lens are excellent. Something no one has mentioned- if you plan to use an extender with the 100-500 mm lens, it's range is limited by the mechanics so it will not go below 300 mm so essentially you have a 300-500 mm lens. I have had both the 100-400 and now the 100-500 mm lens and they are very close in optics and not to far off in weight and girth. If you are using the 100-400 mm lens with the R5 or R6 then you need to add in the weight of the adapter. It's a tradeoff - full focal range with extender (100-400 mm lens) vs a little less weight and 100 mm more focal length 100-500 mm lens. Personally I miss the full focal range of the 100-500 mm lens (with extender)- I found out I use the 100-200 mm range more often than I thought. Just something to think about.
I sold this lens, so it is no longer available.

You'll save a lot of replies if you'll access this thread and update the
title to read = *** SOLD ***
That 'edit' tool is in the upper left at the top of this thread page.
Thanks. I figured that out and did it.
