I was traveling from Denali to Anchorage aboard an Alaska RR train when I spotted these swans in a marsh alongside the tracks outside Wasilla, Alaska. I was on the observation deck of the last car taking in the beautiful scenery along the RR during the several hour trip. The only time I went inside was to eat dinner! It was a fabulous trip despite the rainy, overcast weather.

The train travels 35-mph and the swans were swimming away from my direction of travel. I fired off several shots but these are the best I got. Cropped and PP w/PSE8.

I was using my Canon EOS SXi w/17-85mm lens because I didn't think there would be any opportunity to use the 100-400 for wildlife. It was only scenery I expected. We saw many flocks of Tundra Swans, ducks and geese on marshes and lakes along the route, but they were too far to take pics of them.

Enjoy these and comments are welcome.

What? They wouldn't stop the train for you? What kind of a tour is that? LOL. Neat!

 I would've loved that more than anything at many spots along the way, but I don't think the remainder of the passengers would've appreciated it.

It really wasn't a tour that we were on. I made all the arrangements for our travel from point to point and places of interest along the way. The train was our best transportation down to Anchorage before picking up rental vans at the airport for our Kenai Peninsula excursion.

I'm glad you liked these. Thanks for looking.

Gosh! I wish I could join you. You're going to love it. I don't know how you're going, but any way is great when going to AK.
