Sea Otters in Resurrection Bay, Alaska

Sailing out of Seward, Alaska aboard the Kenai Star on our way to tour Kenai Fjords National Park, we spotted these Sea Otters frolicing in the calm waters of the bay. It looks like an adult with its pup. One amused itself with a stick, then they started wrestling. These critters are so much fun to watch.

I was using a Canon EOS XSi w/100-400mm L lens. Cropped and PP w/PSE8.

I hope you enjoy seeing these as much as I enjoyed watching them and taking the pics. Comment if you wish.

Oh, yes. It was a fun shoot. We saw more near the end of the bay but they were too far away and we watched them with binoculars. Fun, fun. Glad you like these and thanks for looking.

SOme good shooting here. How close were you able to get and what percentage of the frame are these cropped to?

Were these shot from a boat or shore??
I didn't get to see these guys--you make me jealous.

Thanks for posting.

Larry, we were aboard the Kenai Star on a cruise of the Kenai Fjords NP. Its a large boat and these critters were in Resurrection Bay a short way out from the marina. I used my 100-400 to get these and I'd say they were about 100-yds. out. They put on quite a show. Wish we saw more. We did see some in Kachemack Bay down in Homer but I didn't get any good pics because of shooting into the sun. Glad you like these and thanks for looking. -- Gene
