Steller's (or Northern) Sea Lions in Alaska

I shot these pics of Steller's (or Northern) Sea Lions (a.k.a. Sea Wolf) on the Chiswell Islands in the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, Gulf of Alaska while on a tour of the Kenai Fjords National Park.

When I sailed out of Seward aboard the Kenai Star, it was raining, there was fog, the air was misty and the sea spray wet everything on deck. A real miserable day! Before we departed, the forcast was for 3-5 ft. swells but it was much less when we reached the gulf. The fog lifted and the wind subsided.

The Captain got us as close as he dared, and because of the yaw, pitch and roll of the boat, it was a challenge for any photog. These pics were shot HH, and I chose to shoot in P-mode using my Canon XSi w/100-400mm L lens. (PP in PSE8.)

Enjoy.
