Clixpix, we need more information. Is the Inbox you are referencing related to an application for viewing the subscription magazine or your email? If the former, which magazine? If the latter, which email app?

Hi Gwash:

The inbox comes up when I look at the Digital Camera magazine. The Inbox is at the bottom of the screen when I look at the Library page. It is not e-mail. Hope this helps

Thanks

Just saw the ad for the Tamron Tailgate Tour. They will be in San Diego on the 18th, and they were there a couple of days ago at a different venue. Have any Hoggers attended one of these? I am a serious hobbyist. Just wondering if it would be worth it for me to attend. Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi VickI:

About a year ago I attended the Tamron tour in Sedona, AZ. They provided a nice lunch buffet, had some lectures on lenses and photo bags etc. The highlight was being able to try their menu of lenses on your camera with the correct mount, usually Canon or Nikon. May be some new mounts now. We stayed for lunch and tried out some lenses. Took about several hours, but it was a nice outing, especially if you go with friends. You are the best in deciding if the trip and traffic is worthwhile. Bring your camera, use their lenses and then look at the results on your home computer. Have fun if you plan on attending.

I subscribe to several digital photo magazines. In one case I saw a red dot next to my inbox with the number 1 in the center. I clicked on it and saw the message, read it, and clicked on cancel. Now I do not know how to remove the red dot and empty the inbox. Any help will be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Thank you, clixpix. The Tamron 150-600mm and the Canon 100-400mm II + the 1.4x extender are about equal in resolution. Both are very sharp. I like them equally. Both have slightly different advantages. The Canon 100-400 + 1.4 extender is smaller and slightly lighter and can focus between a minimum of 2-3 feet. This has very fast auto focus even with the 1.4 extender. Without the extender the auto focus is extremely fast. The stability is about the best I have used. The special and costly lens coatings produce a sharp contrasted photo. When using the 1.4x III extender. you can only use the center focus point and you lose one f/stop which is not a big deal. The price of this lens and extender will be about $1500 more than the Tamron 150-600mm lens.
The Tamron is very sharp and fast at auto focusing and has good stability control and you can use all your focus points with evaluative metering. It's slightly longer and heavier than the Canon lens but almost the same weight as the Canon with the attached 1.4x extender. It's closest focus is about 8-9 feet and will give you a sharp close-up photo. I really can't tell the difference in IQ between the two. I think the Canon combo might have a slight edge in sharpness of 1 or 2% which is not worth mentioning. The Canon 100-400 II is more rugged and weather resistant and has more controls and more expensive. If you want a great 150-600mm lens for your money, the Tamron will fit your needs and if you use a Canon 7D Mk2 with it's 1.6x factor, now you have a 960mm lens and won't need an extender. If you want a smaller, rugged and slightly lighter lens for more control, then the Canon 100-400mm lens will fit your needs.
As I said before, I like both equally. It all depends on where and what I may be shooting and the weather, what lens I may use that day.
Thank you, clixpix. The Tamron 150-600mm and the C... (show quote)

Thanks for the great reply. I currently have the older 100-400 and have the 1.4 and 2x extenders. However, my 50D will not autofocus at f/8 with the 1.4 so I have to use manual focus. Have been thinking about getting a new camera body that will allow autofocus at f/8. Thanks again and keep those great photos coming.

Hello Regis:

Your photos have always been excellent. I notice that you now also use the Canon 100-400 and the 1.4X extender. How do you compare this Canon combination with the Tamron lens you have been using earlier. Which setup do you prefer and why.

thanks for your response.

Hi:

I have the Sansung cell phone and would like to use the GPS coordinates recorded on the phone at a location to imbed into the photos I take with my Canon 50D at that location The 50D does not have GPS. I did a search on UHH and Google and did not find what I need.

The question is: What is the best way to upload a photo from the cell phone into the folder in LR with the photos I take with the 50D. I would then select the phone photo along with the others and synch the metadata.

Any advice or pointing me to some written material will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the note Regis. The fact that you do minimal processing is a testament to your photo skills and the quality of the lens.

Your photos with the 150-600 are awesome. I was wondering if you do any post processing before you post on UHH? A friend just bought one and I showed him you site and photos and he was also impressed. Happy new year and good shooting.

Does your camera have a dioptric adjustment in the viewfinder? Perhaps this now needs to be adjusted for you new vision. Good luck.

To all who responded, thank you very much. The suggestion on the Rebel SL-1 is worth looking into. Will keep you all posted as to what I decide. Perhaps my decisions will help someone else in the future.

Thanks SonnyE and Shellback for your thoughts. I guess I was trying to compare the IQ of the SX40 with my other lenses to see if I would suffer a degredation of image. The one I posted should look lots better with a little post processing.

As time goes on my DSLR,lenses, tripods etc. are starting to get a little heavy for walk-around photography. I am thinking of getting something like the SX60 or something similar. My wife has the SX40 that I am playing with to see if I like the size and the features. It has about an 800 mm 35mm equivalent. I took it out to the front yard this morning and shot the mockingbird on my pyracantha bush at 800mm hand held. Here is a photo right out of the camera with no cropping etc. What do you UHH folks think of this quick shot and my idea of downsizing. I like to shoot nature and wildlife.

There is an extra period after "biz" I removed it and the link works fine on my MAC. Hope it works for you.

It's glued in, I used a small jewelers screwdriver and worked around it scraping away the glue until I could get under it and pry it out. If you go slow, you should be able to do it without breaking it - however, it's pretty much useless the way it's mounted so your call...

Once the compass is out, you have access to the knob retainer screw. Remove the knob and slide the assembly out the mount side.

Thanks you Shellback. I will give it a try---Joe
