Today, I shot this Yellow Jacket with my Canon 100-400 II lens + the Canon 1.4x III extender at 5-6 feet which would be 3 feet closer than my yesterday's Yellow Jacket photo at 8-9 feet.
That's a portion of a red tulip in the background.

Canon 7D Mk2 - Canon 100-400 II - 1.4x III extender - 1/500 - f/11 - ISO @ 1000.

Thank you, bcheary. My wife got stung by one last year and had to go the Doctor for the pain.

That is so clear, I almost expect it to move. Those little varmints kept us from eating dinner in the back yard for one, entire summer.

Thank you, Carlo. I am trying to show how a telephoto lens can capture a close-up image without using a macro lens.

We (North Idaho) have a lot of these pesky creatures and have a hard time to enjoy a back yard barbecue without getting stung.
Thank you, Anvil, for your kind reply.

I'm glad I was a few feet away from this pesky insect to get this shot without getting stung. That is the advantage of using a telephoto lens instead of a short range macro lens.
Thank you very much, gwr, for your kind comment.
