Just saw the ad for the Tamron Tailgate Tour. They will be in San Diego on the 18th, and they were there a couple of days ago at a different venue. Have any Hoggers attended one of these? I am a serious hobbyist. Just wondering if it would be worth it for me to attend. Thanks in advance for your input!
I believe you are the only one to answer that question of whether you should attend? Go and let us all know how it went!
I agree with what you're saying -- but it's an hour and a half one way -- through southern California traffic. Not a thing to be taken lightly, if you know what I mean.
From the web site ad, it sounds really good. But I'm wondering if it really is as good and helpful as they make it out to be. Marketing people can do wonders with words. Would like to know about the reality of others' experience.

Hi VickI:
About a year ago I attended the Tamron tour in Sedona, AZ. They provided a nice lunch buffet, had some lectures on lenses and photo bags etc. The highlight was being able to try their menu of lenses on your camera with the correct mount, usually Canon or Nikon. May be some new mounts now. We stayed for lunch and tried out some lenses. Took about several hours, but it was a nice outing, especially if you go with friends. You are the best in deciding if the trip and traffic is worthwhile. Bring your camera, use their lenses and then look at the results on your home computer. Have fun if you plan on attending.

I have not attended, (I'm in the midwest; it's coming my way this fall) but maybe this will help:

Thanks for the links. I'm a farm girl, born in Indiana and spent almost two thirds of my life in Wells County just south of Fort Wayne.

Is going there worth 3 hours driving to you. The traffic is another issue. It could be 15 miles at 10mph :-( or 150 at 100mph  . Same time, different type of stress. The 100mph trip might let you make new friends who are in the CHP or work in the traffic court. :?
I used to leave Corona about 5:15 to 5:30 to get to East LA and the school I taught at before the first bell at 7:20. Something like this would seem to be worth it if I really wanted to attend the event.

I went to one at a local dealer. It was small, not well organized and rushed. I will go the next time in the area to see if they have improved. I cannot fault the staff that were on-site, only the planning and timing. However, I think it was one of the early stops. I do wish they would extend it for a couple more hours and provide for larger crowds; for one seminar, I had to sit in the sun and could barely see or hear the speaker. In their defense, I must say that the venue was in a small, but busy shopping center, parking was difficult and the host's shops neighbors have a reputation for their unfriendliness.
We had one about 10min. from my house a little while back, I was unable to make it. I said that to say this....
I suspect one of these will eventually be closer to where you live, assuming you have a fairly well known or larger camera store near you. Ask at your local (closer) camera store.
EDIT: I found this schedule....
http://www.tamron-usa.com/tailgate/I would go to the one in Gardena on the 28th but, that's my anniversary, NO CAN DO! :| ;) :D

They are going to be in Santa Rosa the 24th at Shutterbug Camera and then in Riverside the 27th at Image One Camera and the 28th in Gardena at the True Fast Garage motorcycle center. The 28th is a short presentation on portraits and then a shooting session of bikes and bikers with instruction and loaner lenses.
Would any of those be better for you?

Sure, if it's not too long a ride, and there's no admission charge. You can report back to us.
We just had Tamron do a loaner and talks on June 6 and over 2100 people came and I know of no one unhappy. It was in Michigan and people came from Ohio and Canada.
