I don't understand why some members have to stamp on others on this site, and some members make a habit of doing just that. This should be a safe place to share opinions and ideas without drawing rude and caustic responses. If something doesn't meet your threshold for comments here then be an adult and quietly use your back button or delete button. Your frustrations and nastiness have no place here. It would be great if Admin would address this more fiercely and make this a more enjoyable read for everyone.

You should definitely check out Magnachrome (https://magnachrome.com). Their prints are very vivid but without making them look overdone. They just have a lot of "pop." I've had a few metal prints made by them and they are excellent. They also did the work quickly. Good luck!

If you are a human. If you're a monkey, you're not the photographer if you push the shutter release button.

I don't know about that. A couple of years ago there was a huge kerfuffle about a monkey that grabbed a camera and took a selfie. It looked like a pretty good portrait to me. Whether or not the monkey or the camera owner was the photographer and therefore owned the rights to the image ended up in court. I never did hear how that one ended...

And information from those same medical apps would be very valuable to your insurance company. They would pay big bucks to have access to your real time medical information. It might show that you spend 8 hours a day sitting in a chair and never get any exercise or that chocolate and alcohol are your two main food groups. Next thing you know your health insurance rates go up. I have no idea what information my existing technology is already sharing about me or with whom so I won't have a "smart" watch or one of those Alexa things. The internet is the wild west come to life so I try not to feed it.

So, I broke down & purchased a D850 after shooting 18 years with my D40X. The new one has so many buttons & it's heavy! Can't wait to do something with it but think I'm gonna need a lesson or two... any suggestions to get me up to speed?

Yes, go out and shoot! There's nothing like a little practice to get your feet wet. Shoot your dog, the neighbor's house, a pond, whatever is in front of you. Then you can decide which settings you like and see progress. Reading and watching videos is great but you have to grab the bull by the horns, or the camera by the grip, and shoot it!

I thought the SST was discontinued because of economic considerations...!?

I don't know about any design flaws. It was very VERY expensive to fly and maintain so I think it was on its way out already when the accident in Paris happened which, as noted above, was not the fault of the Concorde. A magnificent piece of engineering, though.

And it was a great flight! Three and a half hours from Paris to JFK, not even time to show a movie so they fed us a huge lunch. The cockpit door was open the whole flight (1982) and I was allowed to visit the cockpit. The ceiling was low, though, and the bathroom was tiny. Because of the altitude at which it flew the windows were also small. It was fun to watch the "Machmeter" as it climbed but there was no jiggle or other indication as we broke Mach 1. The takeoff angle and landing approach angle were both very sharp, which was fun. When we landed at JFK the plane was not allowed to approach the terminal because of noise so we were bussed to the terminal. The baggage was already off the carousel and customs was a breeze. If we didn't account for the time change we landed in New York while we were still walking along the Seine. A great experience but rather pricey!

I agree with Cap_Dave. Fedex in my area is horrible. I get a text that a package is out for delivery and I can count on it coming the next day. Then they come up the front walk until they can see my step and throw it. They've turned around and headed back to the truck before the package hits the concrete. If it's raining it's often left out where it gets wet. I don't buy anything fragile, like camera equipment, from a firm that uses Fedex because I don't want it broken. They also sometimes leave the package outside the garage door where I am likely to back over it.
In addition to that I find that B&H puts the goods in a cardboard box, throws in some plastic packing material that may or may not fill the box, then seals and ships it. The goods are on the unprotected bottom of a cardboard box with the padding above it and nothing underneath. I understand they want to move stuff quickly but some of these things need a little bit of padding.
I buy from other places when I can or I drive to a store. Allen's Camera is 45 minutes away and I can stop at Hunt's right at I-91 on the way to New Hampshire.

I can't imagine anything more terrifying. Years of counseling might not set her back to normal and I don't know how she would ever trust a boyfriend again. I wonder, though, what her response was to her boyfriend. Does she still say she loves him? Has she forgiven him? Or does she hope he is locked away for many years? The latter might help her recover and would be the best intellectual response but so many times these situations don't result in an intellectual response. The heart does what the heart wants. I hope she is moving toward a happier situation.

Take a walk around Clarksdale, Mississippi. The town is full of street art and murals, along with the Delta Blues Museum and Quapaw Canoe Company if you want to take a canoe tour on the Mississippi River. It's a beautiful town in spite of being in a rather depressed area and I spent a couple of days wandering around shooting murals and eating real stick-to-your-ribs cooking. The canoe trip on the Mississippi was informative and a lot of fun, too.

Let's assume the battery is trash. Get some really good epoxy and a large wood screw. Turn the screw upside down and epoxy it to the battery. After the glue hardens you can get a good grip on the exposed threads of the screw and give it a tug. It might work and the only damage would be to the battery, which is cheap enough to replace. If the battery comes out you decide if the rest of the camera is damaged or is ready to sell. I hope this helps. I am not in favor of drilling into the battery for the various reasons already mentioned.

Amazon sells wine corks for crafting, and most likely, corks for small scale wine makers, too. So, no real need to drink the wine to make a birdhouse.

You're really not fully committed to saving birds, are you? Sometimes sacrifices just have to be made...

What has happened to all the jokes, comics and hysterically funny stories. They seem to have disappeared recently. I, for one, go to the chit-chat topic first thing when I open UHH. I miss the frequent laughs.
Anybody know the answer?
Hambar06

I think more than one of our UHH jokesters got tired of people expressing disgust, dismay, or other unhappiness with their jokes so they got fed up and left. We're not all one flavor and we don't all have the same sense of humor. If it's not really offensive, and therefore an attic candidate, but you don't like it anyway then just go on to the next post. There's way too much sniping on this site in general with a few people contributing most of it.

If you're willing to mail it you could try Black Lab Imaging in Flemington, NJ. It's been a while since I used them so check online to make sure they're still open. https://www.blacklabimaging.com or (908)751-5131. If you ship unprocessed film make sure the shipper does not X-ray it!

I used a company called puzzleyou.com for several puzzles over a period of time. It's been a while but my memory is that they were pretty good. I suggest you not use a photograph with blank sky, a lot of sandy beach, or a lot of lawn because when you try to put the puzzle together all those identical pieces will drive you crazy. Of course, if it's a puzzle for someone you don't like...
