I do a lot of bird photography here in Central Florida and my wife gave me a new Tamron 150 - 600 mm G2 for Christmas. I immediately ordered the Tamron 2X converter. I tuned the lens by itself and when the 2X arrived I was excited to try it out. I was disappointed for two reasons. One was that I found the difference between using the 2X converter vs not using it and cropping the difference was not noticeable to me. I tried Auto Focus and Focus peaking. The second reason was that Auto Focus does not work with the 2X converter that I confirmed with a phone call to Tamron. So I sold it and just use the lens by itself. I may look for a 1.4X converter as, according to the Tamron tech I spoke with Auto Focus is supposed to work.

My old Nikon 105 mm AF Macro lens is great but when I got my D850 I found that the lens was not compatible with the focus shift function that I probably wouldn't use all of the time but I would when the opportunity arose. I have been reading where the Tamron 90 mm Macro is a better performer than the Nikon. Does anyone have any experience or opinion on this and does the Tamron work with the focus shift feature. I've not been able to find an answer to that question on line.

The same thing happened to me selling an RV for $20k. Counting out $100 bills. The guy was shorting me $1000. Took more than 3 recounts to prove it to the buyer especially when he first claimed he had given me all he had. But he had more in his truck. I finally got my the full amount. Still not sure if it was a deliberate attempt to deceive or not.

The link you provided was NOT for a Nikon grip but for a Vello which is sold by B&H new for a few $$ more than this eBay auction.

Yes I have done all that and actually did get the process to work when I first got the camera. but it's like a Chinese puzzle and haven't been able to duplicate my success. The process listed on Nikon's website has little resemblance to the actual process.

I have a nesting woodpecker in my front yard and wanted to set up a remote trigger on my D850 only I can't get Snapbridge to pair with my camera. Please excuse the poor quality webcam pictures of my step.
First I turned off Airplane mode
Then I turned on Bluetooth. The menu is not clear but it does say that Bluetooth is ON. First photo
The I start to pair from my Android phone. Photo 2
Under Connect to Smart Device menu I select START and the image in photo 4 pops up.
D850 shows as an available device and I select it. Photo 5
Then in photo 6 I select Pair.
The first couple of times I tried it it just didn't work and there was no error message then I started getting the one in Photo 7. I had password OFF but tried setting one and that didn't work and I don't know what pin they are talking about. Can anyone help me with this? I don't know what was wrong with a cable remote. That would be much simpler. Nikon need to work on making this quick and easy. Or maybe it's just me. Thanks

Call your local astronomy club and find someone with a vacuum chamber.

Thank you all for the thoughtful suggestions. Dano wins the prize. Apparently if I try to sync the pair when they are very close together, they will not function even if you move them apart after syncing. The need to be synced at least 6' apart. Then all is good. So thanks again.

I had found Alex Silva way back when I first got this combo. He is very good with clear instructions. He even has another video with my combo. However, when I follow his lead they are still not connecting. Thanks for the video.

Now I know what that (store original) check box is for. Thanks and sorry. BTW I did pour over the manuals for both units and that is why I am frustrated. Did the same thing months back when I first got them and was able to figure it out. Guess I'm just getting dumber as I get older. No offense to other older photographers. Hopefully, this image is easier to read. My phone camera was having a bit of difficulty getting focus.

I have a Godox TT685N and a Flashpoint R2 ProIIN and I am trying to do the simplest of things to just remotely trigger the flash. When I first got these, it was somewhat of a struggle understanding all of the options and controls but I did get them to sync and I was good to go. But I don't do this very ofter and just started to play with them together again and I just can't seem to get them to work. My phone did not take the best of pictures but here is a picture of the two screens. I have Group A set up with Channel one and ID set to off on both units. What other setting am I missing? Thanks for any help.

I've always thought of that as vintage photography.

I just discovered, the hard way, that in Live View with Silent Shutter activated, my flash will not fire. I watched a few YouTube videos and found out that, at least, my camera was NOT broken and according to the authors, even Canon has this feature. Can anyone explain why Nikon would implement this logic into the camera. How do people deal with this for close-up focus stacking using the flash and in Live View? Or are we just relegated to using the eyepiece? Just curious.

Greetings,

I just purchased a used but like new Manfrotto 055xPROB tripod with a Kirk BH-1 ball head for $100. Seemed like a pretty good deal. So there are just a couple of things I have questions about but I cannot find a manual that I can download for this thing. Really surprised that Manfrotto doesn't offer PDF manuals or at least I can't find them on their site and the ones on line are just ad schemes. I know, what's rocket science about a tripod? Yeah I get it.

There are two features on the spider head between the leg mounts that I don't know what they are or their intended function. One is just a cylindrical protuberance with a negative cylindrical cutout on the top and the other is like a loop/clip that is loose that sort of looks like the R458.39 in the diagram. The other thing is shown as R190.427 and it is plastic. Thanks

I used to have an android app whereby I could set the camera format and lens focal length and then view my landscape through the phone camera simulating my 4 x 5 format camera. It has disappeared from my phone and I can't find a replacement on the Play Store. Has anyone found one like this? It's so much nicer and more effective than a cardboard cutout.
