Expensive Lesson Selling a Camera

I sold a camera the other day, along with some other gear and a camera back pack the other day to a gentleman. When he handed me the cash we both counted it out and the deal was sealed. As he left, I counted it again and found I had miscounted the amount. I ran outside to alert him, but he didn’t see me as he started to drive off. It cost me $100.00, but left me wiser. Count it once, twice, and then a third time. Somehow we both miscounted. I did contact him via FB Messenger and he said he’d like to make it right, but we’ll see. He lives in Anchorage so we are 40+ miles apart. It’s a hard lesson, and partly my fault. Folks, use this as a lesson and please be careful when you sell a camera, lens, gear, or for that matter, anything, and make sure you very carefully count the cash. I don’t think this guy was dishonest, it was just a mistake. Perhaps he was still distraught over the fact that someone had recently stolen his Sony A7 III.

You make it sound like it is his fault... It does not appear to be so when reading your account.

Note: Snail mail works. Cost? A stamp and you get your 'missing cash'.

Thanks. I edited the title. Makes more sense. I’m not particularly good with titles.

Lousy titles don't matter.

Good intentions do.

Hopefully all will work out as originally expected.

Thanks. Like I said, “Lesson learned.” You’re never too old to learn.

… made it sound like his fault? I re-read his post and saw nothing to indicate he felt it was the buyers fault.

I hope your buyer realizes that it always pays to do the right thing and will follow through.

I bought many second hand items on Craigslist, every single time, I always brought the right amount to pay the seller, and I counted money in front of him, then let him count it again, so if after I left, the seller found the amount was short, that was the seller's matter, nothing to do with me. This sounds very strange, I don't know what happened to both of you, but I think 90% was your mistake !

"Partly my fault" leaves part of the fault to someone else, who? A better assessment would have been "My fault".

Ok, so I suggest public flogging for miss formulating the title.

That’s pretty harsh! 🫤

For those tossing out judgement, I didn’t post this for that or to invite me being trashed in some manner. It was just a reminder that mistakes can be made and care needs to be taken in these deals. Let’s just let it rest at this having been on both me and the buyer. Thank you.
