Your information is very wrong. Since 1995 7000 wild animals have been found to have rabies including skunks, bats, raccoons
and several other species. Hantavirus is spread by infected vermin and they are infected by fleas. Over the past 25 years 40,000 people have been treated for Rabies in the United States. It is true that most of these cases involved domesticated animals but where did the domestic animals get infected? There have also been cases of wild animal infections on humans. The point is that this is not something to be taken lightly. The Hanta virus is a real threat and should not be ignored. This is a major problem and should be addressed in a realistic way. A cavalier attitude shows a lack of knowledge and common sense. Maybe people posting about this are just trying to help rather then being of an accepting attitude. I am a leader in the Sierra Club and during the leadership training it is emphasized to the students that wild animals should remain just that, not cute critters. Our most important consideration should be our children and children should be told the truth about this threat to our health. Keep wild animals wild, they are not pets.

No, it's not my information. I stated CDC statistics, if you believe them to be incorrect in their data then perhaps you should contact them. This is not a platform for the Sierra Club, it is a photography forum. This is a thread where someone posted a photo, for comments on the image, not for a lecture on Hantivirus or Rabies. There is a section contained within the forum for non-photography chat. I would suggest that we discontinue our hijacking of this OP's thread, and you can create your own to pontificate on the inherent dangers of chipmunks, but I do hope you warn everyone of the significantly greater danger of dogs versus chipmunks. Thanks for the discussion. 8-)
