I am happy to have a quality canon EOS 80D. I am also happy to have a Black Rapid Sling. It saves my neck and shoulders. I’m happy I will soon have more time with my wife as she retires in December. Together we will become more learned on photography With this beautiful machine that we have had several years now and yet to spend a lot of time with. I’m happy for this forum that I plan on visiting more often. I’m glad I’m still alive and have the opportunity to be with my people and of course you dear folks. Have a great weekend

In other news, California has passed new legislation levying a Megapixel surtax on all newly manufactured high end photographic equipment. Beginning in January 2020 Cameras with more than 10 megapixel capabilities will be taxed at a higher percentage based on a complex formula. In essence the more megapixel the higher the surtax. After cost of implementation the balance of the remaining funds will be put into a trust that will be distributed to low income residents of California seeking to purchase or upgrade their photography equipment. This will make near or professional quality equipment more available to those underprivileged residents of California. The lower the income the higher the subsidies. This tax will offset some the WB Privilege and help bring the state to a more fair and balanced environment.

Good Afternoon UHH
Q: is there rhyme or reason to the Canon numbering method? Is there some way to know anything about camera by the canon number ID? ie. 5D 7D 80D etc. prior to searching the internet.

Hi Fellow UHH
Question: canon 5d mk ii.
9,000 shutter count
Used primarily and mostly for video.
What effect on the camera longevity does cinematography have on camera vs shutter count.
Would this camera plus 2 inexpensive lenses and other accessories be worth $700.00? If in great condition used of course

I own an 80D. Easy to use. Articulating screen. Great on video. Wish it had two slots for memory. I think yours does. I had no help deciding except for the internet searches and such.

I was deployed to Hickman for about a month some years back. I visited the memorial while I was there. I was taken by surprise by the multitude of Japanese at the monument. Many more than Americans. I was struck by the many flowers and wreathes dropped in the waters by those visitors. I was confused. What the heck were they doing there. Interfering in our sacred visit. Maybe paying homage for their sin. Maybe some less than honorable reason. I felt conflicted and still do to this day. All I know is that I felt like I was a stranger in my own country at our monument to soldiers killed by people with no honor.Horrible people. These people. But of course the Japanese do own Hawaii. Still conflicted. Can’t forgive. Will not forget.

The Black rapid can be attached like you say at the tripod or it can be connected to the side like a regular camera strap.
I actually like it that way because the lens does not stick out when you are moving so as to bang and bump on objects it encounters in the world. That said it makes it difficult to transfer to a tri or mono pod quickly due to the need to use a tool to remove the adapter that holds it to that part of the camera. I think there is an adapter available now to alleviate the problem. As for “Is a camera made or supposed to be carried or transported with the lens facin the ground?”..... I don’t know. It is safer and more comfortable for me using the shoulder strap at hip level to have the lens in a safer position still being able to bring the camera to ready quickly.
Merry Christmas to y’all. Happy New Year

Look at Black Rapid.

Not a pro. But I had same question awhile back. I got a black rapid shoulder strap. This keeps camera available and pressure off my neck who’s became very uncomfortable after awhile. Went to Creve Coeur Camera to look at options. You really need to see what you are going to get. The are not inexpensive. At least for my pocketbook. It is hard to find a place that has a variety of good straps.

Good Evening,
Maybe a little help here. I am and have been having problems using the Canon Connect software. I am not unfamiliar with phones and software. Hence “ When all else fails... Read the Directions!!”
1. Camera does not show up on the phone in WiFi. (iPhone ) After much profanity and finagling turning on and off the phone and camera (Canon 80D ) sometimes it will show up and connect. It will work okay at that point.
2. Then if anything goes into sleep mode regaining connectivity is a virtual nightmare thus more profanity.
Q: has anyone had similar issue with this feature? It seems to me that this should be a fairly simple task.
Maybe someone has discovered a common flaw on this Model or common user error to explain the issue.
Thanx for any suggestions

Good Day,
Obviously this person was looking for a deal. Would you have been invited were you not a photographer?
Given your damaged equipment it seems you are not in a position to do this anyway and should have incorporated this into your explanation of why you cannot do this shoot. It is not her fault that your equipment is damaged. Would you have charged you friend less if it was not? If so then I would reiterate my recommendation. You will get many friend photography requests as a full or semi professional and you must be prepared with an answer when the inevitable occurs.

All,
I am inexperienced and come to this valuable web forum for quality information. I have yet to have any full manual confidence. I urge if you are new to photography or are in the same situation as me and take pictures you are really wanting to keep or are important, use auto first then experiment with manual. At least you will have something useable and if shooting RAW have post processing to fall back on if you are okay with it.

Jerryc41,
Always remember this. “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” From first hand knowledge.
On the technical side have you considered trying to print on a common black and white laser printer with standard printer paper until the size format is correct prior to using your expensive paper and printer?
Also does the print preview show a correct image prior to printing? Printer images can be frustrating even with text
and I did computer work for many years prior to retirement.
Be Well
