About couple months ago I purchased my Canon 77D. It took me a while to choose between 77D and 80D. I went for new technologies in 77D vs 80D, as well smaller size. Do to my illness size as well weight matters to me. I think the camera is awesome. Ok it should shoot 4K and be dust proof, but any other than this, this camera is a winner. In couple months I had done over 2000 shoots, zero problems. How can you beat that? Most of my pictures go to brochures and Websites. This camera has enough resolution to do fine job for me. I'm being Canon man for over thirty years. I respect Canon's cameras quality and reliability. In thirty years only one camera, Canon 650 broke on me. I fixed and used it for couple more years, selling it to my friend, who enjoy it for another few years. I those thirty years I always enjoy at least one Canon camera, sometimes two. If you are a owner of the Canon 77D, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for reading my post. Jack.

I have a Canon 77D and love it. I've owned it for almost a year and it has been fantastic. The size was also a key factor in my decision to purchase this particular camera. The focus is fast and accurate and I love the features the camera. I am curious as to why this was posted in the General Chit-Chat section instead of the Main Photography Discussion?

Count me in! I absolutely love mine. Fine piece of equipment. I also don't agree with the "It's just another Rebel in disguise" perspective, which I've seen posted in various places. The top deck LCD and stabilized video are nice features.

Although I don't own a 77D, I am familiar with the camera. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by, it should shoot 4K, why? Unless you are a professional videographer or plan on displaying on a large screen, 4K video isn't really that big a deal. I'd bet that many of the people who won't buy a camera because it doesn't shoot 4K, rarely use video anyway. They just like saying their camera has 4K.
The 77D is the crossover between the xxD series and the Rebel series and like all Canon DSLR'S, is well made and built to last. I did not buy a 77D because I don't really need one. I already own an 80D and an M50 so a 77D would be quite redundant.

I have zero complaints and 100% praise for my 77D I bought direct from Canon as soon as it was released. Previous to buying it, I had been conscripted as the photographer for my 50th High School reunion. I already had a 450D Rebel, 12 megapixel, and after much thought decided I really should have more resolution to make a nice group picture. I considered both Canon and Nikon choices. The Digic 7 processor, phase shift autofocus, and the ability to use all my lenses tipped the decision toward the 77D. I bought a 24 mm prime lens and a Speedlight for the group pic. There’s a preset group picture mode and I used that. I took approximately 50 RAW + jpg pics in burst mode. Every one of them was in sharp focus. I selected the best one and did a bit of post processing on the RAW file. I posted the results on social media and sent it to several Walgreens for my classmates to purchase. Everyone was delighted with the group pic and the others I took using the nifty fifty prime lens for photos of couples. I consider the results completely wonderful.

Subsequently, I’ve used the 77D on vacations and on grandkids with nice results. I find the videos of the grandkids to be perfectly acceptable. I’ve since bought a 24-105 f4.5 IS L lens and it integrates wonderfully with the 77D.

Like the OP I am along time Canon user; first canon FT-QL purchased in 1967. When I looked at upgrading from my T4i I looked at the 77D, 80D and 7D. Price was not a consideration, however, the new technology and smaller size convinced me that the 77D was what I wanted. We travel internationally quite a bit and never check bags so size is important. The camera has been everything I want and more. If the 90D had been released with the newer technology I might have gone for that. Over the past year I have shot about 9,000 images, everything from expansive landscapes, to birds in flight with great success. Best camera I have ever owned.

I have zero complaints and 100% praise for my 77D ... (show quote)

I, too, bought the 24mm prime and I love the combination.

Me, my 6D, and 24-105, splashed down in Clear Creek in Lakewood, Colorado about 18 months ago. I survived, they didn't. Cost constrained my replacement and I chose the 77D, seeing it as interim until I could get a new full frame. Have been wonderfully surprised by it. Agree with all the good stuff already said. Have found it's low light capabilities awesome. Shooting HS football games in gloomy light stadiums at 12800 (ISO-A, Tv mode), older 100x400 with very usable results, 500-600 shots per game. Have enlarged several to 13x19 for grandson to hang on his wall. No, not museum quality, but fine for him. Post processing in LR Classic and PS. Video doesn't interest me, having been a still shooter for more than 50 years. No new tricks for me. Also have some amazing bird in flight shots. Now I will wait for FF to see what mirror-less Canon introduces next year. I'm 78, very healthy. This happy photo-seer-accumulator is never too old to get and lug around heavy, new gear.

I also own a 77d and love it. My walk around lens is the Canon 17-55 lens.

I've had my 77D for about 14 months. It is good in low light like recreational and old Middle School GYms, dusk dawn. The DIGIC 8 does the noise reduction well. It weighs the same as a SONY a6000--for comparison. It is 11 oz (just under 3/4th of a POUND) lighter than the 80D. This is my 4th EOS Body, I would be lost without my top screen. The 24 MP gives me cropping room if I can't get close or want to use faster but shorter FL lenses. I'd buy it again.

I bought my 77D a few months ago and am very happy with it. Have several lenses but on a recent vacation stuck with the Tamron 18-200 lens (I don't like changing lenses when I'm on the move) and am happy with it too.

Whatever the camera, if you love it, you're good to go. That's how I feel about my D750 - no need to buy another DSLR.

I bought one in May when they went on sale. Although I already owned a 5D IV, I wanted a lighter, cheaper camera to take hiking and climbing but still have 2 control wheels and a top LCD screen. The 77D checks all those boxes. I took it on a 50 mile trek in Peru as well as hiking and climbing. Almost all of the 5K+ shots I've taken so far have been outside and with L glass attached. The IQ has been better than expected.

I don't have a 77D but I constantly read reviews online on many cameras. The 77D is a fine camera and it's refreshing to hear from someone who's happy with what they have, too many hoggers are always trying to upgrade from what they use.

I too am the happy owner of the 77D. I got it to replace my T3i back in May. I really like it a lot. With the articulating touchscreen it’s easy to position the camera and change the settings. I took it with the Tamron 18-400 mm on a National Parks tour and was very happy with the results. I still have a lot to learn but the camera did not disappoint.
