Good Evening,
Maybe a little help here. I am and have been having problems using the Canon Connect software. I am not unfamiliar with phones and software. Hence “ When all else fails... Read the Directions!!”
1. Camera does not show up on the phone in WiFi. (iPhone ) After much profanity and finagling turning on and off the phone and camera (Canon 80D ) sometimes it will show up and connect. It will work okay at that point.
2. Then if anything goes into sleep mode regaining connectivity is a virtual nightmare thus more profanity.
Q: has anyone had similar issue with this feature? It seems to me that this should be a fairly simple task.
Maybe someone has discovered a common flaw on this Model or common user error to explain the issue.
Thanx for any suggestions
Pat

I operate my 80D remotely with an Android tablet quite often and really have no problems. I can move the camera with a wired remote, need to get wireless, and operate camera via Canon connect or whatever the latest version is called.

Have you downloaded the latest version of the Canon app to your phone? I use the latest version of the app on my iPhone and it works well, with no problems. You'll need to go into wi-fi functioning in the menu on the camera to make it connect each time.

Why in the world would anyone our age even attempt such a daunting task on their own??
Don't you have a 12 year old you can lean on for help??
If not then return the camera immediately, you will just be miserable all the time!!!

Go to the Apple store and ask for help. Did that in Florence last week. The kid, who spoke English as a second (or third or fourth) language helped immensely. He set the world-fi on the camera and coupled the phone. I still had some issues later but he got me so close to the bulls eye that I was able to solve my self induced problem.

I use the software to connect my 77D to iPhone and iPad. Here are a couple of nuances I’ve noticed.

1. When setting up initially, you tell the camera whether you are connecting to an iPhone or iPad, and at that point you can enter your own ID for the connection.

2. Each device you set up for connection will have a different WiFi protocol, so you have to select the right device if you’ve set up connections for multiple devices.

3. Bluetooth doesn’t work for Apple products so don’t bother turning Bluetooth on.

I hope this helps.

Yup, it works for the 77D so, too, should it be on the big brother 80D.. The instructions and process is tedious, but it works very well. And it saves the expense of a remote trigger. And you can use your phone as a remote Live view screen even changing focus and exposure. The manual is complete and don't skip any steps. But when in doubt, get help from the nearest teenager, and don't forget to give 'em a Starbucks card.
C'monnn, even I could do it!

I hope I'm not out of place here as I use an Android rather than an iPhone but I found the Canon Connect software to be finicky on connection and operation. When it worked it worked fine but it was not reliable. I went back to Canon's EOS Remote app. I use a Canon 6D and a Galaxy S5 phone. This setup is quite reliable.

So when the camera does connect the app works as advertised. It it just getting to that point and heaven forbid the phone goe inactive. Then it is time to give up for the day reconnect. May go to apple store with camera and phone along with a BFH just in case.

I had the same issue when I first tried using it. I was about to give up, then discovered if I turn off cellular data, it works flawlessly. I use Android, but I'm sure you can do the same on iPhone.

Ive solved all my problems with the 80d by using Flashair on my Android which connects to the camera flawlessly....this was after three different Canon service centers/stores could not get it to connect

Thank you for your comment. I will try to find Flashair. After numerous tries on my 80d, was never able to get a wifi connect. Several other uhh members have had this problem.
