Born in 1928, I also had a great appreciation for AM radio - and shortwave. I had a Zenith "portable" (suitcase size), and later, a Hallicrafters S40, and spent many nights finding stations around the world (instead of doing my homework). There were many good programs on AM in those days. Favorites included "Information Please", with Oscar Levant, Franklin P. Adams and John Kieran, all incredibly knowledgeable on almost all subject matter; "Gunsmoke, with William Conrad, Howard McNear and Parley Baer - perhaps the first program to make extensive (and very effective) use of sound effects; and "The Jack Benny Show", with the greatest comedian of all time, Dennis Day, Eddie Anderson and Mel Blanc. There were, of course, many other great programs.

It's all over the news today!!! Not !!! Had an acquaintance this morning say "well there's no WWII day". A lot of us Viet Nam Veterans were met with angry protests when we returned. I was hit with a bag of runny feces at the Honolulu airport after spending 2 years there...YEAH I THINK WE DESERVE A MEMORIAL DAY...Thank you all that served during that dirty little(?) war that NOBODY wanted...….I am posting some photos of reflection honoring us and especially our fallen comrades.....Semper Fi (always faithful) to all Marines and all veterans of all the services.
