What was behind my question was that I read years ago that beyond a certain point, the extra RAM does not matter. Any comment on this?

Many programs try to run in RAM. The more RAM you have, the more programs can run there. RAM will always be faster than picking chunks of programs off a hard drive by your processor, even faster than today's SSD drives. See how much memory LR & PS take to load up and that will give you an idea of what you really need. And don't forget your operating system loads up in RAM also.
I have an i7 processor and 64Gb of DDR4 RAM. I don't wait too long for anything to process thru. Get the fastest processor you can afford and as much RAM as you can. Also get an SSD hard drive. It's speed helps programs load tremendously. It's not cheap but you'll be impressed.

Good luck!

It's an indication that the picture has been taken. When I click a picture with my cell phone - which is very rare - I never know if the picture was actually taken. I should add a sound.

There is a similar issue with electric cars. They are so quiet that pedestrians don't hear them coming. We might have noisy electric cars in the future, at least at low speeds.

My God, if a person depends on his hearing to not get plowed down by a 3000 lb. piece of steel and plastic, they deserve to get hit. I'd love to be at that civil lawsuit trial and hear what the manufacturers have to say about that, that is after they stop laughing.
And please don't drag in the blind people. They're smart enough to go to a corner and push the button to stop traffic.

Thanks for clearing that up. I also like a normal of 35mm on full frame much of the time, but haven’t found a fast prime in the low 20s in DX format. I think the 50mm Nikon primes in DX versions make outstanding low light and portrait lenses.

When I go on a vacation with the family I go realizing it's not a photo shoot. It's a family vacation. If I want to go on a photo shoot I go alone. That's why I don't go on many photo shoots. It's a lonely pursuit. I'd rather enjoy the family time. But that's just me.

10M, I hear you loud and clear. In my 1st marriage I took many many pictures because my wife was a work-a-holic. It was lonely and I took up my time with photography. In retrospect it was a blessing because I still love photography. As for her, she's long gone and I remarried a beautiful awesome woman who just happens to love photography too. Now we have a family and the cameras don't get picked up as much as they used to. But it's so cool to have a person who looks out the window then takes off for her camera and gets that shot.

I find the DSLR industry is comparable to the auto industry. Remember back in the 60s with the big 3 telling us of flying cars by the turn of the century or self-driving cars? Well my car still has wheels and those self-driving cars are a million miles away because of a lack of enthusiasm repairing and replacing our highway infrastructure.
SLR cameras went digital but beyond that it's still a camera. I think DSLR technology will continue to flourish because of their quality and overall acceptance. Mirrorless will grow from the aging baby boomers looking for a more lightweight structure to allow them to continue their hobby. Millenials seem to be wrapped up in their cellphones but as they age, will come to DSLRs because of their high IQ.
Photography is a wonderful hobby as we all know and we all have sunk a small fortune into it no matter which venue we've gone with. But I think DSLR, just as the automobile, will be here in it's current form for many years to come.

I hear you. Ours is a Road Scholar small group program to Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, and our interest extends beyond getting check marks for a wide variety of animal sightings. I'm personally looking forward to no TV, U.S. newspapers or email!

Hey geezerguy, I have a much easier and far cheaper way of ridding your life of TV, U.S newspapers and email. DON'T TURN THEM ON!

I have a silly but important question to me I hope you can help me with. I have a Nikon D7200 that I am taking with me to a very special spot to take a panoramic shot that I intend to have enlarged to a very large size. Should I have the settings on the camera to take a RAW and a fine jpeg photo or is that even the settings I need to be messing with. This is a rare opportunity for me to take this photo and I want to make sure it is enlargeable.

I think you should be talking to the company that will be producing your picture on what is the best format to send to them. Could be jpeg, could be tiff or maybe something else. You know how to make your shot. Since printing companies have different methods, ask them!

I have never formatted an SD card in my camera or computer and never had any failures. All the cards I have I still use and they read/write perfectly. But if you feel happy formatting them, knock yourself out.
Just saying...

I've always liked the slideshow feature in Windows when the computer goes into screen saver mode. I keep picking different file folders every now and then to mix up the show. Since I don't turn my computer off, I get a nice 28" screen of places we've been to rolling along. Brings back smiles from the events.

I had a plastic bracket that goes over the contacts of the SD Card break off inside my camera. Being careful when extracting it from the slot I could actually transfer the files to my computer then stick it back in the camera and it worked! Eventually I performed some surgery on the slot and got the bracket out. Camera works fine with any SD Card now. Personally, I think luck was on my side getting it out. Any repair center would have taken the camera apart to get it.

I’m taking my new Nikon D7200 to the beach this year, but I’m worried about getting sand in it. Any suggestions on how to get great pics on the beach without dirtying up my camera.
Thanks.

I think zug55 has the best suggestions. Keep the camera in the bag except when taking pictures. As for the Armageddon types, well why buy a nice camera and leave it at home. I have a D7200 and always take it to the beach. And yes, on calm days I even change lenses. Just keep it protected under a towel or blanket when you do it. On windy days just wear your telephoto lens and try not pointing it into the wind. I know that's fairly impossible but you get my drift. You can get additional protection by putting a CPL filter on it. You'll appreciate the polarizer when shooting the water...huge difference.
After your fun in the sun day, be sure to go over your camera with an air puffer and soft lens brush. The D7200 is a well sealed unit so I doubt you'll have much work cleaning it up. Most importantly, enjoy your camera! That's why you bought it, right?

The same way plain women come out to the dance looking like a goddesses. They got "done up" with make-up. Your pictures get "done up" with Photoshop.

Usually when I go out to shoot wildlife, I shoot several hundred. I just want the #1 card to be large the other will be 16GB

I would do the opposite on your card selection. Put the 16Gb card in your primary slot and the 128Gb card in the secondary slot. Even a couple hundred shots should fit on your 16Gb card. I have the same camera and put 2 64Gb cards in it and never gets to the 2nd card.

Literally hundreds of options. By the best you can afford is common advice. How much can you afford to spend? Do you need a head in addition to the pod? Is weight and size an important factor? If just rarely used you probably can get by with one of the common units like Zomei which I paid $100 used I believe. I have a heavy sturdy huge Manfrotto that I almost never use since I got the Carbon Fiber Zomei.

Try buying a Zomei through Amazon. I bought the carbon fiber Zomei for $90.00 during a fire sale or something. Its brand new and easily holds my D7200 with the Nikkor 200-500mm lens. Shop around and you may just hit a lucky deal.
