"Turn signals" and "Racist Drivers?" This is the most passion I've ever seen on Hedgehog ever. And for what? I do wish some of you would use whole words and include the subject you're talking about. As in, "No . . . So don't I.!" I still haven't figured out the point on some of them. And for the "Racist Pig!" comment. Really? That's the best you can come up with? ON the other hand . . it was interesting and to the point. Congrats. I wonder what you thought about Jetman's racist comments???

When I was born there were only 8 million "Native" Californians. It is a great state for surfing in the AM. and ski-ing in the afternoon. But the worst drivers are not Chicanos like me. It's orientals and Iranians who just got off the boat. and when I greet a group of them at the airport I always say; "Welcome! You're in America now . . . Speak Spanish !" Of course it sounds better in Mandarin. They think I'm just being helpful.
As I recall, my grandfather didn't drive very well when he got here from Germany in 1903.. He didn't drive well in 1966 either. He told me that German was the language of Majority untill 1930s or so. That means German/ or Dutch was the second language after English. That might give some insite as to why America didn't want to get into the 2d World War until it was half over. On the other hand, I believe the country which says "Charge" when the other side has given up is usually the side that wins. Ergo Andrew Jackson and the the battle of New Orleans. Well, it worked for him didn't it?
That's why my whole stage name is The California Jetman. This Californians are crazy idea made me rich. Every Texican and Oakee who came to see me jump over a train just naturally figured I was going to kill myselves in front of them. They weren't disappointed too often when it almost happened. Come to think of it . . . . Maybe we are crazy. Must be all that pollution you Yankees talk about so much. Aye?

Being the only cousin of Don Rickles in this crowd, I have a suggestion. Insert your self into the mix and deliver the joke at a home for the aged. Such as; (Jewish crowd who all know I am one of them.) Transform "Work ethic" to . . .
"I don't have my father's work ethic. I have my Catholic mother's work ethic. She and I don't work, but we feel bad about it on Saturdays."

Not much of an improvement, but it works in Yiddish. Aye? AND do "Film script" just before a good joke.

“I am writing a film script about going back in time to stop Hitler’s parents meeting at the Austrian Enchantment ‘Under The Sea’ dance.
It’s called ‘Back to the Fuhrer’ #2.” It has to be delivered to people old enough to know who Hitler was and young enough to have seen Back to the Future #1. and it should go just before another running gag on assassination . . .
"These two Old Jews thought it was a shame that all their young men had died trying to assassinate Hitler. So they decided they were more expendable and would become suicide bombers. They found out that Hitler was going to lunch at Himmel's pub so they armed themselves and waited on the corner.
12 came and went, but no Hitler. 12:30 . . No Hitler. 1 oclock . . No Hitler. 1:30 came and the one old Jew said to the other; "Gee. I hope nothing happened to him."
"Script" is a setup for "Suicide bombers". It could work, but then again . . what do Brits know about humor? Aye? (Or cameras for that matter?) By the way. . . My mother is British. Donald

As an old pervert . . I agree with Chris. As a TV producer I'd decide what my target audience could be shocked by. "If it bleeds, it leads" is for newspaper editors. You would use neither when dealing with 7 year olds. (Unless you like prison etc) What is your Poster selling? Just like writing copy, be clear, be simple, be creative.

I get this point of view, but I disagree. I have 3 overweight daughters. They have always been comfortable with their appearance and felt no pressure to get in shape. Isn't that the crux of these objections slanted towards "realistic" appearance? Maybe a little peer pressure towards slimness is a good thing? Maybe the ideal SHOULD be slanted towards "in shape" not "couch potato", which we are seeing a lot of on YouTube now.
Look at your icon and mine. Who would you buy from if you were under 50? Without makeup and my orange halo I look just like you. A fairly good looking guy for 70 (which We are), but I'd loose half my sales to people not trusting someone who is senile and over the hill.
If fat folks don't want to compete in life then get comfortable where you're at, but why should I quit doing sit-ups because You think I'm making some young chick feel bad? 60% of our children are overweight, but have better self esteem than Chinese kids. The government, nor public opinion can legislate morality, nor good health no matter how hard they try. I create art/pics and TV the way I want life to be. If I wanted actual reality I'd do Hitler pics. He was in pretty good shape without photoshop.
(sorry I can't agree with you. I really am!)
Donald Jetman is a Vice President of Atlantic Cable Network. acn.one and acn news. none of which is "Reality TV". at least not the part I produce.
PS. Mr. Swanda, (the post before this one) should we depend on making things appear Worse than they really are? or isn't "Worse" the opposite of "Better" anymore? This was a fun topic tho. Wasn't it?

I kind of like what the wood worker guy said. I use Vistaprint to get one calendar and see how it will turn out, but to make money you really need more than 1,000 units. 4 Color separations, which are needed to make 4 plates, and the wasted paper etc for 4 color runs (called make-ready) will cost $600. to $1,000. bucks, plus folding, binding, cutting, and profit for the printer etc etc. Bottom line . . You can only make money on a short run if you buy an inkjet printer capable of printing 11 by 17 inch paper, on 120 pound stock, then fold, stitch, and assemble it yourself. You might want to buy a lamina-tor too since you don't have a press to varnish the prints after they are printed. Bottom line; the calendars at Walmart are printed in the millions. HERE'S what You CAN do. Think in terms of packages. say you do a wedding gig. Sell them a package deal. If they want their pic on the napkins it's X-amount extra. If their friends want a calendar, let them order them in advance but like a portrait photographer you don't get the calendars until the pics are taken and printed a month later. Actually I would forget about calendars unless you think up a way to market them. Maybe give one to a client as a print on demand promo. but to market 20 to 90 of them it is usually not profitable, or the cost is prohibitive etc. $6. bucks apiece is a deal, but I bet you can't get 100 of them for that? But . . I could be wrong. Keep looking and tell us if you find something.

PS. have you thought about using a "Print-on-demand" outfit like "Vista Print". They do calendars, but they can print just one, or reorder whenever someone sends you an order. That way You have NO overhead and NO inventory, ergo . . no cost. The downside is 1. They only have a few formats to choose from and B. They may cost more per calendar. It all depends on; do you expect to sell 2, or 2,000. // if you did have to cease you wouldn't be stuck with inventory. It's just a thought.

Pros and Cons. I AM a professional. I did go to law school for 2 years. Therefore I know better than to tell you to rely on what I just said for legal advice, because I am NOT a lawyer and more importantly I am not YOUR lawyer. regardless of that disclaimer; 1. what FWI did with his kid's pics is immaterial. He is just being courteous to them. They did know their pic was being taken so he was smart to get permission. Treat people the way YOU would like to be treated, is a good rule. 2. Most of the advice you are hearing is sound. But don't rely on it completely. 3. The bottom line is; if someone did object to being published the first thing they are required to do is send you a letter to cease and desist. All you have to do to avoid court is to cease. (quit publishing the calendar) any lawyer is going to tell them that they have no case after that and funding a suite out of your own pocket is expensive. (for them) final: get their permission..and send them a calendar. They will be proud that their truck made publication. and if you want good legal advice . . ask a burglar. (that's not legal advice either, but you probably knew that.)

has anyone heard of "Xara Photo & Graphic Designer" by "Magix". They are from Germany but the programs and tutorials are translated into English. I got turned on to them by a hippie 7 years ago because of their lower price (about $60 and up) and shorter learning curve. I haven't used 'Photoshop" for a long time but I think Magix is almost as good. I also have their "Movie Edit Pro" mid range video editor. They have more professional programs (ranging from $40- 120 up to $700. in the video and up to $320. in photo management. I got $440. worth of programs on sale for $60. but I only bought the package for the photo editor and the magic-lasso effect which allows me to cut out my face and meld it over yours in a photo. The cut line seems to merge nicely without much manual retouching, or feathering on my part. Photoshop had this years ago but it took forever to learn. At 70, time spent on learning curves is more valuable because I have less of it. I would be interested in hearing feedback from someone who has used both Magix and Photoshop recently.

I remember doing color separations on a Browning "Rail" camera in the 60s thru 80s. The target could be 26" X 26" and reduce to 1.5 inches. It could be used to make microfilm for spies. But color was a long process taking a whole morning. The bellows could move on the track 20 feet from the target. I would have killed for a color separation camera, but we didn't do enough color printing at Adprint to justify one.
Try calling one of the huge label printers such as Sierra Pacific, Josten's American Year Book and find the oldest 'make-ready' guy they've got. or try the staff at Berkley, or the Hearst Corporation, or the Getty Museum. Or try a small printing equipment wholesaler for ideas. They are very helpful when they're not busy. You will want one who does not exclusively sell used Presses, nor a certain brand. I'd send you to a specific contact, but mine are all dead. Speaking of which . . Dead is the average age of my customers these days. Good Luck. Tell us what he finds out. SLRs are not the only thing that's interesting.

I buy a lot of refurb computers. But I know how to rebuild and adjust computers. I don't know how to rebuild a lens and I'm leary of camera bodies I haven't worked on before. I vote for the group consensus. Get the new one. or at least make sure Nikon issues the warranty. Happy Hanukkah.

I purchased a light there 3 years ago. Little slow but no real complaints. I wouldn't have bought it there if it wasn't cheaper. Tho I agree Bill. You'd think they could find a better name by now.

As a Republican and a cat person, I would like to point out that "Big Brother" (our government) and "Russia" (Putin), are in bed together for spying on people. And as a witch, I have to say; 'It's about time they got together!" and PS. I get double (Shadow) images on my older Canon movie camera occasionally that I only see when I upload the memory directly to my computer. There are tricks Digital plays on you and dito for film. Of course it could be someone else in the coven messing with me. and PPS. "Are the pictures, we're discussing, any good?" Have a merry Christmas Fotobyferg.

Great question. Made me think. What if you bought one of those small picture frames at a department store. They have a memory chip and will display 1 picture after another like it was on TV. Not only does it capture attention because it is moving like a slide show, but it is a great feature for the store you are loaning it to. Every few weeks you can change it to a new series of pictures. They might even want several of them. I would pay money to have one of those in MY store. You could even offer to do a frame featuring their business, or their pics mixed with yours as if they shot the pics.
PS. when I am cold calling someone (as was mentioned) make sure they're not busy. 2. I always am sure to introduce myself and then ask questions like; Have you seen anything like _____? Do you like stuff like this? etc and 3. I like to ask questions when I am buying something from them. That is a great time to go fishing. If they take the bate . . "Sure. I like that stuff..etc" Then respond with "I can come back when you're not busy." You've got great pictures. It should be easy to place them at the right stores. good luck.
