I'm very happy with my Sirui tripod. Would recommend it without reservation.

My experience selling equipment with them is just the opposite. Both times I got more money than they originally quoted for my used Sony gear. I rated it "good"; they rated it "excellent" and paid accordingly. I'd have no hesitate both buying and selling from them again.

A friend just purchased at my suggestion a Sony RX10IV. She has no photography experience except for her phone but wanted a good camera and one she did not have to change lenses. I suggested a number of other cameras but she chose this one. I say that because knowing UHH members as I do someone will offer suggestions on other cameras they like she could have bought. She wanted THIS camera and was not interested in any other. Now that question is answered here is my question.

I have a MacPro and use the Mac Photos program to process my photos. But she has a PC and Windows 10. Can someone suggest a free program she can get into that would do similar things as my Photos program does. At this point she will not be interested in Photoshop or Lightroom.

I appreciate any suggestions,

Dennis

I think she might enjoy FASTSTONE (www.faststone.org). It has a nice set of functions, is very easy and intuitive and is free. It's a great program to learn on. Although I use several programs, I still use it as my main viewer and use it to process jpgs. Fast, easy to uses and does not require a supercomputer.

I've bought used lenses from both B&H and KEH. Both provided excellent service and the descriptions were excellent. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

I think I have the latest version of Neo v 1.0.2.....however when I'm in catalog view and select images I want to show in edit.....click on View and the "Show Film Strip" command is grayed out and will not function? Only one photo at a time shows up in Edit? (I've also tried to reload the program....but the "Show Film Strip" commands still doesn't function. Any thoughts?

I wonder if there is a difference between the standalone and plug-in versions of the program? I use version 1.0.2 as a stand alone program in Windows 11. I'm assuming that what you are trying to do is make the same changes across a subset of your catalogue images. What I do is select the images I want to work on from the catalogue. Group them into a new (temporary) album. Display the new album (ie the film strip) in catalogue. Take the first one across to "edit" make the changes I want then go back to the catalogue and "copy edits". Take the next image across to edit and "paste edits". That way it reproduces the same changes to the subsequent images in the new album. I do look at each image and make additional individual small changes before I export them to my archives.
In my version there is no "show film strip" command, so despite the version numbers being the same it would appear that there are differences in the software we are using.

Despite Skylum being in Ukraine, I have had to contact them with a question and they were very responsive helping me. I hope you are able to resolve your problems.

It has it in catalogue view, but not Edit.

In catalogue view select the images you want in your filmstrip. Go to edit and the filmstrip will be there

I updated from W10 to W11 several months ago. And I'm very happy -- I had none of the problems other people talk about. The only frustrating thing was realizing that copy and paste are now icons when you right click a file. On my machine (a 2 year old ASUS Vivabook core i7 - 10) windows 11 is definitely faster than windows 10 in file retreival and I've noticed that Luminar runs more quickly too.

I bought the largest Alluratek frame (17 inch diagonal; 16:9 ratio) and had an oak frame made for it from a company on the internet. I'm very pleased with it -- and I think it looks really nice on the wall. The next step is to bury the wiring. I have about 2000 images on it -- and what is nice is that it connects wirelessly to the computer to allow you to add more. The digital frame was about $ 200 and the wooden frame cost about $ 75.

Check out the ASUS Vivobook i7 (10th generation or higher) 16 GB memory, 500 GB drive and a dedicated graphics processor. It is blazing fast. I bought one on a recommendation from B&H last year and am delighted -- they come in a variety of screen sizes -- I bought a large 14 inch screen because of poor eyes, but you could easily choose a smaller one and plug it into a big screen monitor at home. It is lightweight, very powerful, fast and has the best screen I've ever seen on a laptop. Great colors and a wide viewing angle. Mine cost $ 1500. (There are lots of different models -- mine was specifically recommended for graphic design/photo processing.)

I use Luminar 4 and recently Luminar AI. Both of them make sky replacements very easy to do and you can build up your own library of skies. I also struggled with Affinity -- I'm reasonably computer literate but I found it very difficult to use. The Luminar programs are much more intuitive (for me).

B&H recommended Watson to me for my Sony and I have never had any trouble with any of them.

The 11 waterfront parks at Lubec owned by Cobscook Shore (cobscookshores.org) offer scenery equal to anything you will see in Acadia without the crowds. Lubec also has one of the prettiest lighthouses in the state at West Quoddy Head. As the easternmost point in the USA, that lighthouse is worth of a dawn visit. And exploring the coast east of Ellesworth through to Calais is pretty special. North of Calais on the way to Houlton is the Million Dollar View -- with mountains, lakes and the ocean all in front of you waiting for a super panorama. My message, don't just settle for the conventional tourist routes in Southern Maine -- come Downeast and see the real Maine.

What suggestions do you have for places to photograph in Maine between Bar Harbor and Portland? Trip planned for July.
Thank you in advance!

Don't miss what is by far the prettiest section of Acadia National Park. You need to go north of Bar Harbor. The Schoodic Penninsula is on the mainland about 18 miles north of Ellesworth. The one way route to Schoodic point is spectacular. You could easily spend well over a day exploring. Its the real Maine coast -- rocks, pine trees, gorgeous clear water, surf, etc. etc. And it will have far fewer people than the park at Bar Harbor.

Enjoy your time in our most beautiful state.

I've just taken delivery of the new A7c. (To replace a 7-II). For me, the size and weight of the 7c clinched the deal. Only had it three days but I'm very pleased. I realize that you are interested in a higher resolution R model, and I would second the suggestion that you go to the 7R-iii if you can afford it. The new 7c is very similar to the 7-iii and there is definitely an improvement in color processing over the 7-ii. If you aren't wed to the 46 megapixel sensor, take a serious look at the 7c. It's so much more portable. With the new kit lens attached and retracted, it actually fits in the pocket of my winter hiking coat.

I've been delighted with KEH both buying and selling. Just received a check from them for my Alpha 7/2. The whole experience from the online quote to receiving a check took only 10 days!. They also stand behind equipment purchased from them. They are the first place to look when you need a lens. I highly recommend them.
