What suggestions do you have for places to photograph in Maine between Bar Harbor and Portland? Trip planned for July.
Thank you in advance!
Get a map of lighthouse locations. 63 along the Down East Coast
Moving north, Owls Head, Boothbay, Camden and Stonington.
Maine will be my future home by this summer
Echo Lake and Long Pond in Southwest Harbor are beautiful at sunrise and sunset. Bass Harbor Light is also on your route.
Pemaquid Lighthouse at Pemaquid Point
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, Boothbay
You will be tempted to skip Stonington because it is a bit out of the way. Don't.
Bath has the Maine Maritime Museum, Pemaquid Point has one of the more popular light houses and Boothbay & Camden offer photogenic harbors. If you like gardens, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, also in Boothbay, is a great choice.
One of the things you will learn about the Maine coast is that it’s like fingers on your hand, out at the tip of each is something wonderful! Don’t forget the Portland Head Light, it’s the one you see on all the calendars. Bring a paper map to get a good overview of the coast. P. S. The Maine coastline is longer than that of California,
We highly recommend The Thistle Inn in Camden. Ask for the room overlooking the Penobscot bay. Camden Hills State Park is a 5,710-acre public recreation area overlooking Penobscot Bay in the town of Camden, Knox County, Maine. The state park features multi-use trails to Mount Battie, Mount Megunticook, and other scenic locales. (Thanks Wikipedia). Cadillac Mountain in Bar Harbor is a must see. Also in Bar Harbor if time allows, take the high speed boat out to see the whales. Tell Spoon and Sword I said hello. Don’t forget that there are no traditional hotels on the coast. It’s all B &B’s. Book early and take a big checkbook with you.
I guess an important ? is how much time do you have? This will certainly impact where you go.

Don't miss what is by far the prettiest section of Acadia National Park. You need to go north of Bar Harbor. The Schoodic Penninsula is on the mainland about 18 miles north of Ellesworth. The one way route to Schoodic point is spectacular. You could easily spend well over a day exploring. Its the real Maine coast -- rocks, pine trees, gorgeous clear water, surf, etc. etc. And it will have far fewer people than the park at Bar Harbor.
Enjoy your time in our most beautiful state.
