When you and your wife each win the lottery, and you don't know what to do with all that money, buy a body and a lens.

If I hit the mega lottery, I would just hire a personal photographer

I have been very happy with an SX 40 but always wanted to get an SX50. What held me back was not the money but the sure knowledge that Canon would come out with an upgrade soon after I spend the money for the SX50. I waited and waited and waited but had my moments. Often I sneak around the camera shops and look at the SX 50 but did not want to hold it and cuddle it and make love to it. That would have meant defeat for me and triumph for Canon marketing.

I don't have either but looking at the specs, the
SX60 has a 16MP, 21-1365 range and a new CMOS PROCESSOR? You decide!

Now, that I have won the purchasing battle it sure is time to get that sx60. Has anyone seen them yet?
If you have an SX60 please tell and don't hold back, let it all come out. Make it a 20+pager.
I will have to wait to return to the USA or till they have them in Thailand. What will come first?

#1. The Thailand bird book calls it a Greater Coucal. I call it a Thai beauty.
It said, "darn it is cold (28 degrees C) and so wet".

#2. Drying after the rain.

#3. This is soooo much better, dry and warm again.

#4. The SX40 can catch birds and the moon. Now with such a stretch, do I need an SX60?

Pictures taken with an SX40. Can an SX60 do MUCH better?

I have a chance to get a Minolta 28-70 f/2.8 G lens for a very good price, but the current owner said he has been using it on his A99 with a micro adjustment and can't guarantee it will focus on my A65 since my camera doesn't do micro adjustment. The lens isn't local so I can't try it out. To my understanding, the adjustment is done in-camera and doesn't change the lens. Am I right? It's a good price, but I still don't want to waste my money if it won't focus on my A65.

I shoot with my A65 in Macro and am pleased with the results! Maybe you should explore your camera with a good book on the A65 such as, David Buschs. In it you will find the A65 DOES have macro what you might be calling micro? Sony makes three macro lens; 30, 50 and 100mm lens. You can also use extension tubes. If you can get to try the lens, go to SCN and select macro!

Monarch butterflies photographed in a Cornell Extension Garden.

Critique, comments or suggestions encouraged. Thanks. 8-)

The eastern North American monarch population is notable for its multi-generational southward late summer/autumn migration from the United States and southern Canada to Mexico, covering thousands of miles.

FYI, Monarch's are scheduled to arrive in Central Texas, second week of October on their way back to Mexico from Canada!

I would also report them to the Better Business Bureau!

Hey, give Helen a chance to look into it. No merchant is perfect. I have had nothing but great dealings with ADORAMA. They have done everything humanly possible to make my buying experience a good one.

While I orefer to buy from my local shop (Tempe Camera), I have bought from ADORAMA often. Good people.

I agree! I have purchased from them and have never had a problem! Although I am a southerner, I have had no problem understanding Norman or Issac!
:-D

Helen has asked you to contact her, have you? If so, what was the outcome?

Naturally so. They are both the 24MP models.
One would have to compare the A7R to the D800/D810 Nikons as they are all 36MP cameras.

I may be wrong but I believe the 800/810 uses the Sony Sensor?

here's a comparison of specs from snapsort.

Notice that is comparing the A7 not the A7R.

My bad is: I would keep that Snapshot review suspicious in that they are comparing an A7 not the A7R. For the conclusions of an expert reviewer, not a magazine publisher, I would use the conclusion reached here:

I look at them all the time. They do the best reviews. Unfortunately seldom timely.
Don't know about the timely bit, but it has been my experience that they get their hands on pre-production models, then follow up with the production models. Makers send them for their evaluation and their reports. They have one of the best labs, equalling the factory labs. In fact they have electronic, optics and human/ergonomic engineering personnel that works for them, as well as, occasionally have job openings for engineers! I place them heads and shoulders above other resources on the Internet.

www.dpreview.com

I like this site for complete specs on almost all digital cameras and lenses available. Many of their reviews contain instructions which are better than the original manual

I have been a member of dpreview for 7 years and go there frequently! Rely on the reviews and the forums!

I purchased three aluminum cases at our local Harbor Freight Store for about $24.00, each. These cases come with padding that you can cut out for each of your camera's, lens, flash drives, etc. I keep all my photo equipment in them and they work just fine and store easily. For my Tripod, it simply stands up in my office out of the way.

I have carried my equipment in these cases all over Hawaii and the USA! They are rugged and work like those you see on some online camera websites for over a hundred dollars!

The belt and braces method is;
If in doubt - shoot RAW + JPG.
Then if the JPG is OK - use that, if you need more from the picture then use the RAW.

Very good advice!
