A good idea. I save most of the video courses they have for the same reason.

I save the ones that peak my interest not as many as you have though.

The only magazine I subscribe to now is EOS Magazine which is entirely dedicated to Canon products. It's a great resource for me. Comes from Britain so you pay a premium price, I think around $42.

I've owned Nikon, switched to Canon and don't regret it. Have a Sony A6000 which was purchased as an experiment and for the small size, don't care for their cumbersome menus.

You'll receive a thousand replies and 2000 opinions. Choose what you feel comfortable with, as long as it's Canon

I generally wait a bit before I install any updates and check online to see if others experienced issues with the update.

Haven't yet had an issue. Now if we're talking update to my Lincoln Aviator well... took them eight days to get my display screen back to proper function after an update that their network installed. Or so they say.... bah!

The reason I posted it here is because I wanted other to know about what happens when we we need canon service.

Thank you for relating your issue. I'll be interested in the final outcome.

Imagine my disdain discovering my nearly $10,000 EF 500 F4 is no longer considered among the elite lenses. My CPS account shows that they dropped the point value of this lens to 0. hmph

Can any report on experiences with the R5 update? I held off as I usually do until the glitches play out.

I look for the R1 to hit at around $9,000 or so.

R5 will start a creep down as the R5 II nears announcement.

I wonder if folks were shown a selection of images from various unidentified cameras and were told that they could have for free the camera that made the image they preferred if they would always choose the latest greatest most costly option.

Probably end up being a cell phone.

Now that I have retired, I don't have the extra money to spend on camera equipment. I am still shooting an EOS-R but it does everything that I need. Do I get fits of gas, absolutely, then I look at the price and I tell myself that what I have is fine. I have a nice selection of lenses that do everything I need.

As I entire the twilight years I for sure understand your concerns. My family is all gone, there's no one left to care for me if I fall ill except for a grandson and he has his own newborn to look after. So I am very careful about spending unsure of what my health and care needs will be future. I have plenty of gear including a few mirror less cameras and that will have to suffice.

I lost the last few years being able to get out with my gear due to caring for an aging parent who passed away a month ago. Looking forward to cooler weather, without hurricanes to see how much photography skills i forgot.

Yeah, I really don't care WHO is leading the field in sensor tech at the current time... I can't afford anything right now and using what I have has its own appeal... They will all utilize the same technology sooner or later so use what you have and keep your eyes on the SMALLER sensors....

We get bombarded with ads and reviews ad nauseam, destined to make us feel we must have the latest and greatest "paperclip" of the month. Yet we forget the reason we purchased the latest and greatest gear we now have.

As I enter my twilight years I have to remind myself, "why do you need that thing" whatever it is.? I have a lot of gear, expensive gear and some not so pricey, I'm happy with what I have and wish I could use it more but life has gotten in the way and I miss it. Caring for an elderly mother who passed away a month ago at 93 after a long and expensive bout with dementia just puts it all in perspective.

Given the pricing I continue to see from Canon (and others) I wonder how our young people can afford to enter the field, professional or hobbyist.
