A 200X digital zoom is just plain stupid because nobody would use such a thing unless it was just for a one-time documenting of something important where quality was not a requirement.

I disagree...

I am camping and met up with a fellow and I am in awe of his Canon SX 50 capabilities. My 650D with a 300mm lens was pathetic in comparison. I'm a newbie so perhaps my perspective is due to naivety. Where I am going with this? I am asking for feedback regarding the SX versus another option. I want the zoom potential but would also like more MP if possible.
Any and all opinions welcomed

This is from my SX50... LOVE IT!

Hi all..I love my dslr but find that I cannot just pop into my bag and go. I seem to use my cell phone camera quite often...which isn't terrible but not the best. I am looking for a great smaller camera that has manual controls and can take excellent shots. I have been told that the canon powershot g1x is supposed to be fantastic but a bit pricey. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!

I switched from a complex dslr to the Canon SX50!
Simple. Super zoom! I love it at <$400!

I'm sold a Nikon D90 and got an SX50... couldn't be happier.
The day these "bridge" cameras surpass the DSLRs is coming!

oh this is an awesome shot!!!! I am going to buy SX50,just trying to find the best price. Best Buy has the best price so far but still looking. Thanks for you reply!

Yes! You'd spend THOUSANDS of $$ on a 800-1000mm telephoto lens the size of an NFL linebacker's thigh!

I got my SX50 at Amazon for <$400!

That's quite a close-up. It's cropped, right?

Yes, it is slightly cropped. With these cameras, sometimes, even on a sturdy tripod, there is slight "drift" so it can be tedious to shoot.

This image was off center, so I did some creative cropping.

I have read some reviews on this camera. My brother has one & really enjoys it.I have Always owned a Nikon so I know nothing about Canons.I take a lot of nature & landscape photos,so my question to all you experts is,is this worth buying as a second camera?

Thanks

I have an SX 50 and for now, it's my only camera.
I like the super zoom feature as will as I can shoot RAW files.
The Nikon 'bridge" camera did not shoot RAW or I would have gotten that on...

Shown is a recent moon shot at 1200mm!

My computer flat lined last week an even though a tech was able to get my machine back to working, none of my photos files will open. It seems as though most files were corrupted.
I have a Lenovo Idea Pad, Windows 7... any help will be appreciated.

I'm not happy with my Photive brand second battery for the SX50. Wondering what batteries you SX50 users have purchased? Thanks much.

I also have Photive but am getting pretty good mileage from it...
But my camera will time out after about 1 minute to save power...

You may want to check your settings... dunno...

I have a 400mm lens, but when shooting the Moon I attach a 2X expander. Anything less results in too small an image. I am wondering if my SX50 HS, with its 1200mm super zoom, though only a bridge camera, might produce good results.

YES it will! See attached from recent "super moon"...

Why would you want to use a flash for shooting the moon? Unless I'm missing something that seems to make no sense?

The same reason you use a flash in an open arena rock concert... because so many other idiots are doing it too... IMO...

I did a test the other day, shooting at 200 and then 300, and I certainly wouldn't want to spend thousands to get 100mm closer.

OR you can spend <$400 on a bridge camera like my Canon ZX50! See attached and you be the judge!
