Hi all..I love my dslr but find that I cannot just pop into my bag and go. I seem to use my cell phone camera quite often...which isn't terrible but not the best. I am looking for a great smaller camera that has manual controls and can take excellent shots. I have been told that the canon powershot g1x is supposed to be fantastic but a bit pricey. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!

If you want a smaller camera, the Nikon 7700 shoots raw and has many features of a full fledged DSLR. It's a bit big for a point and shoot, but will fit in an average sized purse.

Not bad are the bridge cameras. Should fit most ladies bags.

Sony SX50, Nikon P520, Even a Panasonic.

I like my new Nikon Coolpix P520 - has a really great zoom.

Thanks! I think I am leaning toward the p7700...seems like it does what I am looking for. Funny...my first camera that started my love for photography was a bridge camera nikon series. It broke on me before the warranty was up at costco and when I went to replace it I decided to trade up to a dslr! I loved that bridge camera but I am thinking a little bit smaller would be good. Thanks!

Panasonic LX7. A little smaller is the Panasonic ZS30. Very small, and fits your description, is the Sony RX100 and, the brand new version, RX100M2.

I have the RX100 instead of a DSLR. If I lost it or it broke I would buy a new one in a heartbeat.

My wife has an LX7, loves it and normally takes better pictures than I do. Skills count more than cameras.

Get a better cell phone, check the new Lumia 1020, it has a camera that is better than many of those compact cameras. Seriously!!

Hmm..reasearching and narrowing it down to nikon 7700, rx100 and lx7. Lx7 is a better price point but rx100 got phenominal reviews and has a really big sensor. Not sure which way to go. .

Thank you for all of your suggestions. My cell phone is the samsung galaxy s3 which really is a good camera but does not have as many creative functions.

Probably best to stick with the S3 and get a couple of apps for it. You know it will always be with you

How big are the prints you make and how much cropping do you do?

Right now I don't print bigger then 8x10..however if I shoot something I really like I would consider making a larger print.

The s3 is great but I trally want something inbetween that and my dslr with more zoom.

The Fuji X10 is maybe too large but if you can get it to fit your bag or pocket, it'll deliver the best JPEGs of any small camera.

Lx7 is an awesome camera...especially for the price. I use one for my work. The f/1.4 lens is SO nice.
