I have read some reviews on this camera. My brother has one & really enjoys it.I have Always owned a Nikon so I know nothing about Canons.I take a lot of nature & landscape photos,so my question to all you experts is,is this worth buying as a second camera?
Thanks

Can't say anything about the 50, but I do have the 40. I shoot Nikon too, but I got the SX 40 as my "take everywhere" camera and never looked back. It takes wonderful pictures, and I like not having to lug around all of the extra gear. Because it is Canon, there is definately a learning curve though. I would say YES, it is worth the purchase.

I bought the SX50 for my wife but I probably use it more than she does. I like all of the advanced features and she gets good results with the mostly automatic settings. I think it is a great backup camera. TNmike

My wife has the SX40 and loves it. I use it quite a bit. It does a credible job in good light. Of course it is a small sensor unit and therefore not a good landscape camera unless you are just looking for a small print from the image. Also I do not care for electronic viewfinders. But ... I think it is worth the money and would encourage you to buy one. It is a great daytime walk around camera and very good for partys etc.
thank you all for your comments. I know I will have to learn all about the Canon but since my daughter-in-law & brother have always purchased Canons, I have a good support system. I will go check out the best prices but I am sure Amazon will be the best!

I saw a good price on Amazon and then went to BestBuy and asked about a price match...... They looked it up and said, OK and gave me that price too. I would have even paid a little more if they didn't go quite that low because they are LOCAL and I try to support local stores when I can.

I used to use Nikons, but switched to Canon years ago. Both are good cameras but Canon's seem more ergonomic. They just seem easier in the hands! And the cameras worth buying as a first camera. For me it's replaced most of my SLR's, You can do so much with it, easily!

Yes,I feel the same way but I will of course go with the cheaper price. Amazon has it for 369.00 & Best Buy has it for 329.00 but I will check e-bay & see if there price is even lower. thanks for your reply.

If you're used to Nikons, you'll find that Canon has a different Menu system - takes a bit of getting used to. For the price, the SX50 has a lot to offer. You can save some money by getting one from eBay.

That's what amazes me about dealers on ebay. Very often, dealers on eBay advertise products at ridiculously high prices. You'll see a dozen cameras in the $300 range, and then someone offering an identical item for $500.

I have an SX 50 and for now, it's my only camera.
I like the super zoom feature as will as I can shoot RAW files.
The Nikon 'bridge" camera did not shoot RAW or I would have gotten that on...
Shown is a recent moon shot at 1200mm!

That's quite a close-up. It's cropped, right?
