At a young 84 I find I am no longer able to hold my D750 steady enough for good images. Unless I use a tripod most images are soft. I have tried monopod with some success but I really like to shoot street photography so that does not work well. It has been suggested by some of my camera club friends that I may be able to hand hold a lighter camera. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The mirror less 4 3rds such as Olympus OM-DE-M10 Mark IV looks like it would be a lot lighter than the D750. Any experience with mirror less 4 3rds?

As suggested would get image stabilization if you have to go SLR.
I'm getting older and my Canon kit is getting heavy.
I bought a fz200 and a fz1000. Both Panasonic and good quality without having to lumber yourself with heavy gear.
There are if course better bridge cameras but I'm happy with using mine.

You can get software to remove dust etc.
Perhaps software with scanner?
I think it's called silver ??

I have a Canon 7d ii and a Tamron 100-400 mm lens. Does anyone have any experience using the Canon or the Tamron extenders? I am interested in feedback about image quality and maintaining autofocus. Thank you.

I thought that 2x extender (canon) only works with fast lenses.
Also unless the Tamron extender is canon fit, it will not work.

Hi Everybody,
My name is Steve and my wife and I are hoping to learn to take good photos. We are in our 60's and would like to take up a hobby together and thought photography might be something we could both enjoy. We know very little about photography but are able to appreciate a "pretty picture" when we see one and would like to learn how to make some.

I would like to know what kind of digital cameras to buy that don't break the bank (under $500 if possible). We are looking at Nikon Coolpix b500 and Canon and the Powershot SX 530. As well as the Canon EOS Rebel T6 DSLR. Any thoughts or recommendations would certainly be appreciated. Thank you very much and may God continue to bless you all.

I'm over 65 and used to recommend SLR's.
Now I would recommend a bridge camera, which has a built in zoom lens. I am not a pupil looker.
You both want to take nice photos perhaps without carrying a lot if additional lenses. ( I'm not stopping you!).
Everyone has their favourites , the sx 500 is fine
I would try the Sony v250h with x 16 zoom bridge camera or the panasonic 200 with 600mm reach and 2.8 throughout.
I am sure that there are more " better quality cameras" out there but these are pretty decent.
I would also go together on a camera course lasting say 6 weeks (2 hours a week say). This will give you a better understanding.
If later you want to go SLR then fine and use the bridge camera as spare.
Good luck because it is not just the camera
You will learn about.....the subject(s) as well!

Hello, I just joined and like the topic says I'm looking for any resources I can to better myself. For some background I've been taking pictures of vehicles for 9 months now using a smartphone for a dealership. I finally talked the owner into getting a high quality camera to shoot better pictures without taking up all my storage and cloud space. We settled on the Sony alpha a6000 mirrorless since all the reviews we looked at said it was great for starting out and it was one of the very best out there for under $500.

Fast forward a week and I'm having a ball with this thing. most advanced camera I've ever used (they were using a cheap point and click type camera before I worked here and showed them how much better my phone was taking pictures. My phone up until now was the best camera I'd ever used.) This camera I can honestly say has lit a fire in me and I want to master all the ins and outs of it. Let me just say that I'm a complete amateur, I know nothing of the terminologies yet or how to harness anything better than the auto modes, but now I find myself looking at online photography courses and how to guides and it's all so jumbled seeming. Kind of like assembling a puzzle with pieces missing.

So what do you guys think I should do to start out? what resources can I use to break out of auto mode and start branching into the other features? I was looking at this very compelling dslr guide linked on this website but since my camera is mirrorless I don't know if I'd get much out of that, I'm not sure how well one translates to the other.

Apart from other suggestions I would go on a begginers photo course, preferably over a number of weeks. Say 2/3 hour session a week. Some organisations offer reasonably priced fees. One advantage of this is that it is " hands on" and using your own camera. Also a great opportunity to ask questions and interact with other people.
I wish you luck and enjoyment!

Do the lenses have to be semi transparent?
You could take a photo of the glasses on their own, then erase the portrait ones and replace?
Erase the cente of the lense and replace with a lighter colour?
There may be other ways but all involve work.

Welcome,

Indeed, there are so many cameras it is confusing and tiring looking!
No idea how compact you want a camera?
I'm also going to suggest two cameras.
Canon sx50 and Panasonic fz200.

Both available 2nd hand. Have a look.
I t
Nd to look for image quality and zoom size so it is up to you what to look for.
Personally I would not spend a lot at first until I got to grips with using and getting to know your camera.

Try reading the manual carefully.
You may have pressed a button which allocates a particular function.
If you have just bought the camera try resetting the camera to factory settingsfrom the menu, this should solve your problems.
Take time learning to use.
Frustrating at times but this is new to you.

For me the price difference is huge and question whether the difference in quality to an amateur photographer is worth it. To take a magnifying glass out to examine every photo?
I would try both.
I do not doubt the reviewers but £1.800 for a heavy bridge camera?

If you do go for tripod ( try higher speed first). Turn off image stabilizer.

I suggest a selfie stick with mobile phone. All other shots with your bridge or DSLR.
You can also buy a small tripod or gorrillapod. Check first, that these allow you to screw in the mobile phone grip of the selfie stick! So no movement when taking photo.
Check with travel company to see time factors for photos.
Practice putting up the tripod if taking.
Some tripods have a locking bit which you can keep attached to camera so you just clip on tripod.

Welcome!
Again I'm going to say practice using the camera first ( you may have already done so on your previous cameras).
As suggested by others if it is cheaper to buy the bundle then go for that. Also watch for special offers.
After using for a while and deciding what you want to shoot ask another
question .

The Camedia was a good camera at the time but things have gone foreward in leaps and bounds.
I would try a more modern one, perhaps from one of your friends.
Same goes for the dslr

Try a bridge camera. They have a good inbuilt lens. Not perhaps as good as a DSLR but worth a look.
Panasonic, Canon, Sony and others.
Better than lugging a bag of lenses.

Great!
Have fun.
Sometimes I have more fun taking photographs and learning about the subject than the result!
