From experience, what would be a great compact camera with the best quality pictures?
Don't care for Wifii, or uploading to internet.
Don't need a lot of hupla. Just a great camera.
Would appreciate any advise.
Don't mind learning curve. Need to grow

You may want to look at the Sony a6000 -- compact, reasonably priced, and excellent image quality. You can start off in automatic mode shooting JPEGs while you get used to the camera, and then move on to semi-automatic and manual modes shooting RAW when you are ready to get the most out of a wonderful camera. The extensive menu system seems overwhelming to some at first glance, but it allows you to make all kinds of adjustments to your taste, and you can simplify it by using the quick function settings on the back of the camera. Eva, these days I would take a serious look at the great cameras and fast lenses available from Fujifilm, such as:
the X-T2 (mirrorless DSLR format), the X-Pro2 (mirrorless digital rangefinder format) and, my current favorite, the X100F (premium, advanced digital compact with a 35mm equivalent fixed lens). Best wishes on your journey. /Ralph

Are you talking pocket camera? a Canon PowerShot sx720 that has a 40xs zoom.

Don't laugh, but have you given your cellphone any consideration? I will often use it instead of packing a lot of gear. I have three "platforms" that serve me well. Cellphone - Goggle Pixel XL - 12 mp, and Fuji F600EXR which isn't bad, and also fits in my pocket, like a cellphone; a Sony RX10M4 for more focal length possibilities (used often for travel); and D800 and D810 for serious stuff, and client work.

For compact, decent quality images the phone and Fuji are ok.

Eva, I regularly carry and use several of the cameras mentioned in this thread. I'm going to suggest one of the Fujifilm X-cameras (hold them in your hand for awhile, if at all possible), and here's why:

Excellent image quality SOOC (straight out of camera), with many useful and lovely film simulation choices (there are professional photographers who are making a living, selling SOOC images, taken with their Fujifilm X-cameras).

The in-camera RAW converter. Most cameras require getting the exposure accurate and correct BEFORE pressing the shutter button. The Fujifilm in-camera RAW converter allows one to make several rudimentary exposure changes, AFTER capturing the image. WONDERFUL FOR THOSE OF US WHO DON'T ENJOY SITTING IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER, POST PROCESSING.

One more thing: The newer the Fujifilm X-camera, the fewer auto-focus advantages the Sony's have over the Fuji's. If you are an intermediate photographer, consider starting your Fujifilm shopping with the X-T100.

I'd recommend taking a look at a Sony RX10 Model III. Roberts Camera in Indianapolis has them used for $950. Excellent camera to learn with.

I like the Nikon D7200 and D7500 kits. If you buy FX lens you can use them on FX cameras at a later time.
