I'd be interested in hearing from members who have personal experience with the Panasonic. The cost differential is significant. I'll be taking a Blue Danube river cruise (Prague to Budapest) in August. I may opt to leave my DSLR's & lenses home and use one of the two mentioned bridge cameras. My main concern is quality of images and sufficient wide angle to capture scenes, buildings, ... I've read many of the reviews, especially on DPReview. I'll shoot RAW and process when back home. I have storage for the images.

Thanks for your response.

The Pana is very good, however the sony is newer and better spec'd.

Mark, I looked at both cameras, borrowed a friends Lumix and borrowed the RX10M3 from Sony. I have to say the Sony's lens is sharper. Overall I liked both, but found the functional features better on the Sony. My only complaint with the RX10M3 was the speed and accuracy of focus, which was greatly improved in the RX10M4, which is what I ended up buying. No regrets.

And here are some samples from a trip to Ireland I took in December. I almost didn't miss my D810 and the half dozen lenses I would have taken. Almost . . .

Gene,

I had already been told you owned the RX10 IV and visited your images of Ireland. They, along with all your other images, are truly outstanding. I was going to drop you a PM and ask about the Sony, but you beat me to it. Your comments and advice are appreciated. I may have to bite the financial bullet and go for it or rent one.
Thank you, Gene!

Mark,

You might include the FZ2500 in your search.

I couldn't be happier. And as you probably know I am pretty fussy about gear. This was more than I ever envisioned spending on a bridge camera, but it is so much better than the competition I would have regretted saving a few $$ and getting a less capable camera. They really did a great job on it. Too bad they left out the ND filter and it can't focus and zoom at the same time, and raw files are 12 bit compressed (I think), but in every other way it is pretty exceptional.

For me the price difference is huge and question whether the difference in quality to an amateur photographer is worth it. To take a magnifying glass out to examine every photo?
I would try both.
I do not doubt the reviewers but £1.800 for a heavy bridge camera?

If you can afford the price difference, go for the Sony. I purchased the FZ1000 because I would have felt guilty spending the difference even when my wife said go for it. There is nothing worse than buyer's remorse. You will probably never know if the Sony was really worth the extra cash, but knowing that there is currently nothing better is worth something. In my case the choice was between the FZ300 and the FZ1000 so I followed my advice.
