Glad to hear that they do well on the 40d as this means they will do equally well on the 50d that is also among my gear.
Roger that, you should be just fine all the way up to the 90D, or any EFs crop sensor 7dMII for example. It's when you get to full frame is where the glass really matters for the clarity I'm looking for in my own mind! LOL Did a comparison a while back. Took the same photo with the same lens, the 70-200 2.8L on it's tripod foot. Set the focal point for both to roughly 90mm. Had to do the math of 1.6 crop factor for the 40D which equaled 144mm. Only changed the camera body and distance between the 40D and 5DM4. The 40 was just a hare sharper! Wife daughter and son all picked the same shot.... it was the 40 go figure. Micro focused the 5DM4 to the 70-200 and finally they couldn't tell the difference, except for the dynamic clarity of the pixel difference between the two. 10.1mp AP-C versus 30.4mp FF. All were max Jpegs. It's when I checked the RAW files that I noticed a difference between the two in post. The 5DM4 files had much more to work with. Besides that.... no worries.. The 5DM2 is definitely a step up from the 40D. All you need for events is fast lenses and a form of lighting, being on camera or a staging area for weddings for the formal photos. etc... I usually throw the Speedlight on and have fun. Start in Manual mode, set shutter to 200, Fstop to 8 and ISO to 100 or 200 to start, sometimes I'll leave the ISO on auto depending on lighting. Lenses are the 24-70 F4L and the 70-200 F2.8L.
