I have recently acquired a 5d Mark ii and I am wondering if it is still a viable camera for professional work such as wedding and event photography.
I have already found it to be more than adequate for landscape and portrait work but I am mostly wondering about events as the lighting is frequently sub par.
Why not! It was perfectly good for weddings and for whatever your needs were when it came out in 2008. I'm sure many photographers used it long after Mark 3 and even Mark 4 came on the scene. As long as you have the lenses and the knowledge, the camera is secondary.
Ever year I see one of the press photographer Tim, who knows his stuff ( equipment, light, events details). Guess what he uses......with a 70-200 2.8 ......If the camera is in good shape, don’t question this body. Certain body aren’t worthy to keep but certain bodies are really good for long time.
Believe me..........it's a keeper. I couldn't part with mine even when I bought the 5d3......

While I do not own the good lenses I do know where to rent them when I need to

Of course, that actually depends solely on you and your shooting style, for some it may be the perfect camera for weddings, for others it may not be even adequate!

My shooting style is a candid and unobtrusive style.
No flash and usually a zoom lens so I can stay out of everyone's way and they can enjoy the ceremony.
I agree with all the other posters. I had one and almost kept it over my MK IV because the quality was so good.
I use one as a second body with a different lens along with a 5DMKIII for events and find the results are great, plus I don't have to fumble with changing out lenses back and forth.
Thanks for the links I was able to get an owners manual on PDF

It is an awesome camera, to help you in your thoughts. My niece shoots NIKON and has 2 bodies for her wedding/potrait work D700's, and they have sent all the new bodies and she has returned them. the MK2 is an awesome camera for the work you mentioned.
My Good Friend Larry that passed away got me into Photography by introducing myself and himself to the Canon 5D Mark IV. I am still using the Camera in remembrance.
